Re: Samsung Galaxy Note 8 launches with Infinity Display

Can't understand how anyone would pay that much when a OnePlus 5 is just over half the price and like 90% as good. For me, even the OnePlus 5 is expensive but much better value for money. We are close to hitting £1000 for phones and people pay these prices and then claim they are poorer.

    £870 for a phone....think I'll pass. I don't mind spending good money, but that's just ridiculous.

That's the thing, it isn't a phone its a phablet (I hate conjoined words like that, it feels too marketing approved or something).

Like a micro laptop/notebook that's more than capable of making calls. If you need something between a smartphone and a tablet, you get one of these.

I used to use a galaxy S2 and watched netflix and stuff on it all the time, then I borrowed an iPad briefly and couldn't go back to such a tiny screen, so I got my own tablet (couldn't bring myself to pay for an Apple) and I was very happy.

Feels like such a waste buying an xperia xzp now, the screen, while brilliant, is too small to really enjoy media, there is little to no 4k or VR support.

So either buy a small, cheaper functional phone and as reasonable a tablet as you can get for media, or combine both and get a phablet.

I see no mention of a built in fire extinguisher or the ability to eject the battery similar to how the USS Enterprise used to eject the Warp Core when it breached.

Don't worry, these batteries will fail "safe". Instead of just exploding they just vent the fire in a specific direction. As long as you're lacking anything you care about in that direction, you're allll good.

I wonder if you'll be able to separate the saucer on demand via Bixby?

Makes my £350 quid LG G6 seem an absolute bargain!! Bought an S8+ as soon as they came out and got shot of it within a few weeks, just couldn't live with the lag and stupid, crappy fingerprint sensor & looks like little has changed with the Note 8

By the metrics of "high end" smartphones its almost like they are giving it away at that price!!

That price is crazy. This reminds me of being a kid, when you'd keep on poking someone(raising the price) until they snapped and gave you a punch(stopped buying these over expensive phones). I bought a used LG G4 last year, like new, for €250 and I'm getting everything I need from it. I don't really care if the camera takes 50ms extra to open or if the cpu is 15% slower or if the display is only 90% as good..

The one thing that annoys me about my S7 Edge is the curved edges of the screen. It's hard, sometimes impossible, to get a click selection on a part of the screen that's behind the curve. When you want to crop a screenshot, you have to slide the edge you want to adjust out of the way of those curves and then move it back. It looks nice, but I'd prefer a flat screen area with a sharper curve or no curve at all.

Now you see the one phone I absolutely loved was the S7 (not edge) and I'm seriously thinking of picking up another 2nd hand as I really miss wireless charging with my G6. The S7 has it all, flat screen, fast & no lag, SD card support, IP68 rated, fantastic camera, decent battery life and a fingerprint sensor in a proper location!!!!!

Phones seem to be pretty expensive here in recent years- I remember looking at phones in Asia(someone I knew was going on holiday there),and for the same price(including local taxes),I could get a significantly better version of the Moto G for the same price as my UK spec one(basically the SOC was another product tier above it and much faster, and it had some other things my one didn't have).

I have noticed on HUKD,more deals for import phones too,as some of the specs look amazing for the price.

The only trouble with importing is that all warranties pretty much go flying out the window. LG Europe won't honour it so you're left with returning it to the shop you bought it from overseas, and that can be o nightmare. Still, pays your money and takes your choice. 😗

The thing is in the territories where they are sold much cheaper, they still have a manufacturers warranty, and local taxes to pay too. I think it is a bit like games where several countries can be more expensive than others, since they realise the market will bare it.
