One thing I'm not looking forward to is the pricing on these new Intel CPUs when they hit the market. I would not be surprised if the i7-8700K hit the £400-00 mark upwards.

The non-K 8700 was rumoured at $408 ish, and the unlocked K at $485 ish (not sure if that was retail or bulk/OEM)

Similar to the 7th gen Kaby Lake pricing to be fair - but actual GBP retail prices I'm sure will change.

It's massive and heavy, which is only a negative if you want to move it or have a weak desk. The fan controller is also pants, though I believe there's a knack to connecting it up that resolves that - never bothered to look in to it.

I did a review of it on here (reader reviews) where I moaned that it was a bit fiddly putting together, but it is a great case everything considered.

I'v got a good feeling that the AMD R5-1600 will still be the best value chip. That said the hardcore Intel guys will at-least have a mainstream option now. That said with a whole system upgrade it's not gonna be worth it.

AIUI the boost when using a single core has increased, so no not a 10% IPC just more clocks. But we always knew that if AMD released a good CPU then Intel would start raising clocks and heat.

What will be interesting is whether they have used a quality thermal interface this time, that might show how hard Intel are trying.

If they launched it £50 people would whinge they were trying to put AMD out of business. They can't win here no matter what they do.

However for people like me looking to buy a PC in a few months this is great news, it's just a shame Vega is so pants as now we have to wait until next year for the 11 series cards.

and for people like me looking to build a PC we already have great news. It's called threadripper. And is much more economical. But to each their own. As the saying goes, a fool and his money are easily parted. There will always be someone stupid enough to pay the intel premium. That won't be me however.

Threadripper is a great, but very niche product. If you hang around forums like this long enough then you start to think that everyone does large amounts of video editing and streaming (at the same time as playing games) and needs such a CPU.

However the majority of people don't need Threadripper, & would never utilise even half the cores. The majority of fast processor buyers are gamers and benefit more from high clock speeds than 24 cores. Much to the the AMD fanboys disgust Intel still leads the way in several gaming benchmarks, even before this new generation.

I don't care less about AMD or Intel, but Intel supplying better products for the same price is a good thing & Threadripper is a niche product compared to i3/i5/i7 & Ryzen mainstream.
