Well, given the price is expected be ~£350 - almost twice that of the R5 1600 remember - things don't look too good. You can buy a Ryzen 7 and motherboard for that kind of money.

Isn't it rather odd that a 6c CL can't beat a modestly oc'd 5820K? I would have expected the CL to be better than this. Having said that, if CL does have good oc'ing headroom then any underwhelming stock performance won't matter so much.

It is the older ones that are the problem.
Easier to design around it from scratch than to try and implement it later.

Assuming the 8700k will overclock like its predecessors...i.e. 4.6ghz, it looks like a handy chip. Depends on the pricing though.
