I just can't fathom how anyone can justify to themselves that paying such an amount is worth it. TOTAL RIP OFF

Why are you so bothered what other people do with there money? why do they have to justify it to anyone? if they have the money whats wrong with them buying something they really want?.
Why are you getting wound up about it, if you don't intend to buy one don't, ignore it, not your money

You guys have it all wrong. In a world of disposable/cheap products, with ridiculously low profit margins, Apple is one of just a few companies charging sane/real world prices for what they sell. Just a shame that 'everything else they do is a fail' in my book - especially repairability.

bargain
The main issue i see with the price is that it means all the other manufacturers will up the prices as well. the iphone X makes the galaxy S8 and S8 plus seem a total bargain which is great for Samsung.
I hate that the phones are getting more expensive every year without any major changes. the only reason I am thinking about getting a new phone is because i will not get anymore updates on it.
it is not just apple phones that are getting more expensive. for example the one plus 3 is considered a great phone which cost £309 when it launched. what does the oneplus 5 have that justifies costing £449?

I bought a Moto X Style for £400 when it was released and that was pushing what I'd spend on a phone, and that was pretty pointless as I've gone back to my OnePlus One. Both phones do everything I want and more and I'll probably use both of them until they're both on their knees. OnePlus One will last forever as it will have an active custom ROM community behind it for many years to come.
If I were to upgrade, I'd probably go with a Chinese brand that are fairly well known but still much cheaper, Xiaomi, Huawei or even another OnePlus, as they're still much cheaper.
You can buy an iphone for £400, just not *this* iphone. If Apple think they can unlock a new tier of the phone market then good luck to them. I won't be buying, but then I was surprised at how many people can drop £1000 on a graphics card too. But then car ownership can be far worse, £1000 is a normal yearly MOT+service bill on an old Alfa.

Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
Apple finally introduce fast charging to their phones and then in typical Apple fashion dont include a fast charger with the phone and are asking $70 for a fast charger and cable.
They are like vampires and have to syphon off every last drop,

Don't blame Apple or Samsung for anything - they use market research and that has indicated that people WANT to pay £1000 for a smartphone which will be "outdated" within a year or two and replaced by another phone of a similar tier. Give it a few years and don't be surprised by phones hitting £1500 maybe even £2000.
Phones have become status symbols and what do you expect when hundreds of millions, maybe billions of dollars are spent on advertising, etc.
Its like when we were kids and you had the "must have toy for christmas",etc.
This, and it also affects even lower end parts of the market, below £300 too,but in the end enough of the market does not care,so we will need to deal with it.
In the end if you use Android you can use custom ROMs and extend the life of your phone,so as long as it is not too anaemic you can get a good amount of usage out of it!

Apps and website 2 completely different things. That's because the dev fee is £15 for life instead of £99 a year if i remember correctly. No this allows you to accurately see what's happening on phones instead of relying of the emulators in browsers. The apple store also has a load of rubbish on it. Although to nowhere near the same extent it's still there.
