The Power Glove!
...Okay, not really.
My actual answer would be that the usage cases are too varied to realistically pick one thing as the best of all time, but if forced to pick I'd suggest that (generally, rather than pointing out a specific model) headsets - of the headphones with microphone variety rather than Virtual Reality - could be considered one of them.

Re: QOTW: Which is the best gaming peripheral of all time?
The Gravis Ultrasound. I upgraded mine to the full 1MB. The 3D positional audio in Doom was really effective with headphones on. I might still have it somewhere, but it was an ISA bus card so I don't have a motherboard it can fit in even if any modern games did support it.
The on-paper specs of modern sound cards have improved, but the Gravis was special.

For gaming items.
my hotass system by CH Products and still work today
It include a CH Products Combat Stick, CH Products Pro Throttle, CH Products Pro Pedals and CH Products Pro Flight Yoke... defineately the best items I ever had and they work as like I bought them yesterday today lol, impossible to break it unless purposefully bring a big hammer or something.
For Video Cards: Voodoo II + Matrox G200, for both Glide and 3DFX :D
Sound Card: Soundblaster AWE32 ( but secretly always wanted a Gravis Ultra Sound ) :(
My 2X speed CD-ROM drive lol
And my first 500mb harddisk :)

Novint Falcon.
3D controllers with force simulation are just brilliant and I get really annoyed with the gaming industry every time they announce yet another visual technology. I'd much rather see the gameplay potential of new control systems explored, instead of pouring umpteen billion into another small visual improvement.
Re: QOTW: Which is the best gaming peripheral of all time?
For me it's a toss up between the Namco GunCon for PS1 (loved Time Crisis!) or my G29 wheel & pedals set up for PS4/PC. It's not the first force feedback set up I've had, that would be the Microsoft Sidewinder wheel (not even properly USB, it has a serial to USB adaptor) but racing games look a whole lot better now. If only more PS4 games supported it, it'd be the clear winner.
Re: QOTW: Which is the best gaming peripheral of all time?
Can't believe no one has said the QuickShot 2 yet. :surprised:
Re: QOTW: Which is the best gaming peripheral of all time?
For me it has to be either the Zip Stik or Powerplay Cruiser (blue one) as it has the ball top and the other models have tapered tops. Both these sticks are used wioth the good old 8 Bits like C64 & Amstrad etc
Re: QOTW: Which is the best gaming peripheral of all time?
For ne the that has be the Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro
Re: QOTW: Which is the best gaming peripheral of all time?
The Xbox One controller. Its damn near perfect as a games controller. I'm told the elite is better but I haven't laid hands on that yet.
Theres been a few others that stand out, including the time crisis gun on the ps1 (Was it ps2?) the quickshot pro? from back in the days of the speccy and c64 and the microsoft sidewinder joystick that had force feedback, mainly because it was the first (iirc) of it type.
Re: QOTW: Which is the best gaming peripheral of all time?
Xbox One controller is pretty awesome, but I've recently fallen in love with JoyCons. They aren't that comfortable - OK, just nothing exceptional - but the ability to use a pair as two multiplayer controllers on the go is just great. And there are actually some great games that make use of that.
Re: QOTW: Which is the best gaming peripheral of all time?
My Zboard Fang gamepad - despite no driver updates for years it still automatically detects the current game and applies my custom key mapping, so that I can have roughly the same controls for every game.
These days wacky key choices in games are not so common so most of the time it just runs a default WASD setup but there have been some games in the past where the learning curve for the keys was a nightmare (and so was the game's own mapping tool) and this thing had me up and running in minutes.
Plus it has a great short travel key action, which isn't at all what I want from my typing keyboard. And it's symmetrical, so I can use it with my right hand (I use my mouse lefty style).

I still get a good feeling cracking out a Guitar Hero controller and thrashing it out with a mate on whatever platform is currently on. Great fun.
Re: QOTW: Which is the best gaming peripheral of all time?
The PS4 Aim Controller is really nice, but the most satisfying game controller I got is probably my HOTAS. Nothing special, Saitek X-56 and thrusmaster pedals.
