Does anyone have experience with Bitcoins?
I looked into it years ago and apparently you had to install a program on your PC and after keeping your PC on for a while and you CPU being maxed out, you got only one bitcoin. The electricity used didn't make this sound like attractive
You're thinking about mining bitcoins. Noone does that anymore, as the difficulty is such that mining using CPU or GPU is not feasible. But to HAVE bitcoins, you can a) get a wallet and hold it in your PC, b) buy it on trading sites.
The security issues are up to you to decide.
Still kicking myself when I sold my coins at about $500 each all that time ago
I remember back in April thinking it was going to correct. I could have 5x+ my money if I'd bought then!
Still holding a little but only peanuts compared to what I could have had :/

Be Careful on the Internet! I ran and tackled a drive by mining attack today. It's not designed to do anything than provide fake texts (say!)

Or this German proverb:
"Wenn das Wörtchen wenn nicht wär, wär mein Vater Millionär"
(If there wasn't the little word if, my father would be a millionaire.)

$9000 at the end of the year.
Bought quite a few Bitcoin several years ago and sold most of them to make a bit of profit, which now pales in comparison to the amount I kept aside and is worth a decent sum now.
Makes me cringe thinking about some of the hardware I bought from Scan with Bitcoin a few years ago, I think I bought a 7950 for about 2 Bitcoins at one point, that's about £9000 now
Interesting reading the thread! Rewind a few years when the value fell, and you had the comments along the lines of “If only I’d sold them last month” and so on.
20/20 hindsight is great when it comes to speculation - unless you are prepared to spend a large amount of time watching the markets. Bitcoin seems to be more volatile than regular currencies.

The problem is these figures are fueling the speculation is other crypto currencies, I may never be able to afford a graphics card again.
Anyone got any ethereum?
Bought 2 in January for £8 each and now worth about £200 each.
My partner bought 10 ETH for £10 each and sold a week later - kicking himself now!
One of our investors bought about £50k GBP in the IPO.

I used to have at least a few bitcoins years ago from early mining... *deleted long winded story* - Short story: I've got no idea what I did with them. I only tried mining as a short phase, and then moved on and forgot all about it... Recently (more than once over recent years) I've tried to find them by looking through old backups, but no luck...
I imagine a lot of other people must have lost them like this too... there must be a lot of dead bitcoins out there that are permanently lost forever.
Probably lots of people in the same position.
Not sure about the mining side of it to be honest
