Re: QOTW: Preferred smartphone: Android or iOS?

Neither, I know i'm in the minority but I like my Lumia 950XL. The tie in with my pc is brilliant. Its fast and responsive, friends with andriod phones who have had a play with it have commented about how fast it is.

I also saw a very fast windows phone years ago.

My experience with Android since 2.x has been extremely positive, storage limitations a side.

    Android.

Not only because it is much cheaper, but also because if the manufacturer decides not to update past a certain point (or is extremely slow in doing so), there's usually the option of putting on a custom rom such as LineageOS.

Re: QOTW: Preferred smartphone: Android or iOS?

I use whatever will give me a solid experience under £300,as I have little want to spend £100s more for a slightly better camera on a phone. If Windows Mobile actually had a better ecosystem and Apple were to suddenly comepete under £300 effectively, but sadly neither of them do,so Android is the choice I make by default even with the issues with platform fragmentation.

Android. I like having a choice of phones whenever I want to upgrade. Also expandable storage rather than paying absurd amounts for incremental increases in iphone storage sizes.

Re: QOTW: Preferred smartphone: Android or iOS?

I really liked my Lumia 735 but switched to Android (Xperia X Compact) for the camera. I wouldn't buy a phone without expandable memory, which rules out both Apple and my son's OnePlus.

Re: QOTW: Preferred smartphone: Android or iOS?

    Android.

I didn't mind Apple devices at all - had an iphone 3, 4, 4s and an iPad - in fact, back then, I'd argue they provided a better experience than Android of the time which was, I think many would agree, a bit clunky.

However, I just can't abide iTunes, and Apple's more recent hardware fumbles have done nothing to make me rethink my choice.

Re: QOTW: Preferred smartphone: Android or iOS?

    in my opinion:
Windows phone is nr one for simplicity of use
Android in nr one for versatility
iPhone is nr one for apps stability/availability ratio.
In past month i used all of tree and ended up with Android one phone.

Re: QOTW: Preferred smartphone: Android or iOS?

    Ah now. Hard question.

If I could have the variety of hardware choices of Android with iOS updates? Until Google sort out the platform fragmentation so updates can be pushed out regardless of brand (my experience of Sony was awful), then it'll be Apple.

Once Android is able to be fully updated with the latest security updates, without having to resort to roms? Probably Android. The choice of hardware is much more varied, I tend to prefer something a little more robust instead of covered in glass.

Re: QOTW: Preferred smartphone: Android or iOS?

Windows phone is my first choice, unfortunately I needed a business critical app which pushed me to android as I can't afford/tolerate apple premium tax.

Re: QOTW: Preferred smartphone: Android or iOS?

I wanted to get a windows phone but never got round to it, in some ways it was a good thing.

I've never gone for an iPhone because I've never seen a need for it and well it was usually behind what I had already (had a p900i when the first one came out) when I was updating my phone... now they seem to be back on this glass back lark again and I refuse to buy any phone with glass on both sides, it's just asking for it to get broken.

So I'm currently using an android phone, will likely buy a new one soon but I want stock android and preferably support for alternative firmwares like lineage for when the manufacturer stops supplying updates.
