A tracking device for the Moose.
In a more conventional sense, its probably the pair of PMC DB1 loudspeakers I found for under £50.

Xiaomi Mi A1.
Having bought a Xiaomi Note 4 for ~£120 (for someone else, but I had a play first) I was surprised at how good it was and I would have been content with that.
When it came to replace my dying Nexus 6P I decided I'd go with the Android One (stock) Xiaomi phone. It got good reviews initially and it's even better now as the camera app has been updated and the photos are far better than I was expecting, even in poor indoor light. The screen is a big step up from the Note 4 and surprisingly on par with the OLED Nexus 6P's screen.
The only let-downs for me is the downward-facing speaker and the relatively small battery (still 5-6 hours on screen time though). The only other negative is that it doesn't have NFC, so no Android Pay payments (though I don't use it much anyway).
Just waiting for the Oreo update to drop before I move across full-time.
Has to be the Oculus Rift.
nvidia shield tv
GTX 1080 mini.
Oh hang on, maybe my Iiyama monitor...
Grab that. Get that. Check it out. Bring that here. Grab anything useful. Take anything good.
Where's that 'notbad' pic. I'll leave it out this time. I would have picked those up no doubt... nice.
OK for me the biggest tech thing of 2017? Well honestly it should be Ryzen that's been pretty great but I think overall I would have to give it to Google (all hail Google) and the Google Home device. It's so neat and it just works and you think it's not a big deal but it kind of really is. That is all.

Be Careful on the Internet! I ran and tackled a drive by mining attack today. It's not designed to do anything than provide fake texts (say!)
Tough question, as this year happened to be an (unplanned) upgrade year. Highlights included a dirt cheap 780ti, and a 32" curved monitor, which has become dedicated to pwning noobs.
The winner, however, goes to a new keyboard - the Drevo Excalibur (https://www.drevo.net/product/keyboa...ibur-cherry-mx). It has a tasteful white backlight which means I can see the bloody keys. The build quality is superb, and I was sufficiently impressed as to buy one of their SSD's as a Christmas gift.
Yeah,I walked into a shop and it was there and I had to do a double take!! I thought picking up this lens for £180 from Amazon this year was a good deal:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nikon-AF-S-.../dp/B00HQ4W4XO4
https://uk.camelcamelcamel.com/Nikon...uct/B00HQ4W4XO
However, those PMCs actually beat it as deals go!! I have only listened to the floorstanding PMC speakers, and I was surprised how deep the base goes for a small standmounter.

Treating your listening room I think is worth a look. Started doing it about a month ago. The difference is quite large but you've become so used to all the useless echo you don't really notice it at first and some folk may in fact prefer the larger volumination of the echoes or whatever. But I prefer a slightly treated room.

EVGA 1080ti FTW3 when it was nearly $100 off
LIFX wifi lights and an Echo. I feel like I live on the Enterprise now.
It has to be my Pixel 2 XL 128gb.
It may be expensive but it is very quick and does anything you want it to do near instantly.
Yeah, room acoustics can make a big difference - since they are rear ported I tend to give them some breathing space too. They are on a set of sand filled Atacama SE24 stands(which I picked up for around £6/£7 nearly a decade ago, since the person selling them apparently just wanted to clear some space up IIRC).
