    Pentium 4 @ 7.2

    No introduction needed tbh, but still...

    Fugger over at extreme systems has got a P4 running on a DFI 925XE-T2V motherboard clocked at 7.2ghz.

    Check it out here, or if it's being a bit slow, it may be worth trying this coralised link.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    crazy fast...

    Must be getting close to the limits of P4's. Surely they can't make them go much quicker.

    That is running a three stage cascade that was built by Chilly1 so it is the best cooling (-150c unloaded iirc and prob -110c at that speed!)

    No, he got a 3.6 prescott to 6.3GHz.

    Blimmin amazing TBH- but if SNDS set in at more than 1.7V, I wonder how long the Prescott will last at 1.9V. By my calculations it would be putting out well over 300W under load.

    I'd put up with a wrinkled winkle for that kind of power.

    I was co-presenting with an Intel Super-Techie recently

    He pointed out that a lot of the core of a CPU will be running at least twice as fast as the speed quoted on the box...

    ...which, if I am translating to this situation correctly, means that there are certain parts of the guts of this CPU that are switching in the region of 15GHz !!!

    Andrzej's correct, the simple ALU units on P4 run at twice external frequency.
