Used to have some VIA chipsets back in the day. Certainly were highly rated so I was disappointed when they left and went a different route. I've only experienced their CPU's in some till hardware. And pretty good for what they were designed for. Good to see some more competition, it's been one sided for too long.
In before chinese spying software in our CPUs
But it is good seeing VIA chips back in competition.
More competition in the CPU sector is good news. Having someone nipping at AMDs heels while they nip at Intels is only good for ys as a consumer!!
There is a thread on AT forums which has updates on the newer CPUs VIA releases:

WOW!! Long live X86 Architecture! Used a Via Samuel II @733mhz back in the days, it lacked L2 cache but managed to offer descent performance. This will be good, more competition less prices for us.
That is unlikely because the CPU hardware itself is still designed by Centaur Technology. That is also why VIA's CPU identification is "CentaurHauls".
Looking at their current crop of CPUs, they still have some ways to go before reaching those goals.
Fond memories of when it used to be a 4 dog race all using socket 7 / super 7
Intel, AMD, Cyrix and IDT.
I do remember well cyrix's tagline equivalent to 'intel inside' on the 6x86+ was 'cyrix instead'
Shame really that VIA (centaur) brought out cyrix and IDT and then it went downhill from there
Then there was the amd chipsets (slot/socket a) that were so bad that it was best to run the via / nvidia chipset instead.
That was the last time I ran an amd cpu as well.
VIA is china (Taiwan), which is different to china (Mainland) - I'd still be interested in seeing some Longsoon-based systems.
VIA might be ROC, but Zhaoxin is full PRC (as in state-owned, headquarters in Shanghai)
