Re: AMD details 2018 plans for Ryzen CPUs

From what I've read elsewhere, it seems a good reason to get the 400-series motherboards is that the chipset-driven PCIe slots will get a bump from PCIe2.0 to PCIe3.0.

Something that interests me greatly as the owner of an Intel 900p Optane PCIe SSD.

Why does Hexus always use tiny images ? Usually for things like this you can click on em for a bigger picture, but I've noticed on Hexus that's never the case, they're always just embedded and crappy. Cmon lads I'm getting old my eyes don't work as well anymore!

The existing Ryzen CPUs seem to be getting some price cuts:

Some more details of the Ryzen APU performance:

    https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-ryze...mance-unveiled

It seems the Ryzen 5 2400G and Ryzen 3 2200G are replacing the Ryzen 5 1400 and Ryzen 3 1200 at the same price-points:

Ryzen 3 mobile is also announced:

The first 2C/4T Ryzen part too with 3 CUs.

I wonder if one could hybrid crossfire the integrated vega gpu inside the raven ridge APU's with a Vega 56 or Vega 64, or even the RX 500 series GPU's........

The overheads wouldn't be worth it with 56 or 64, but smaller chips should be a good match

RX 550 would be the obvious target, with 512 shaders. Although I thought AMD were dropping crossfire profiles, since DX12 has to have multi-GPU coded into the game for it to work? I think the days of multi-GPU setups being worthwhile are ebbing away, tbh.

Typical for the R3 2200G to come in cheaper and faster than the 1300X I just bought as a Christmas present Still, if I'd waited I wouldn't have had it for Christmas ... no regrets for me.

Lots of good news for me here though ... the 2200G would make a very nice HTPC with a cheap A320 board (to replace my Athlon X3 + GTX 750), and the 2C/3CU die finally makes an appearance in an official roadmap ... looks like I'll be getting myself a nice birthday present or two this year

Re: AMD details 2018 plans for Ryzen CPUs

I'm wondering how the Ryzen 5 2400G will run Civilization 6,5,BE, Stellaris and Eliteangerous at 1080p.. Time will tell I suppose. I'm assuming the 2400G will have Vega 11 graphics? I've seen chatter of a Vega 24 or something variant coming but can't verify that officially. I could just put a graphics card in later on if need be. Nice to see the 2400G clocked higher than the R5 1400 anyway.

Depending on settings, probably no issue for Civ V, but Civ VI might get it hot under the collar (leave off the high beard density options!). I was under the impression nobody plays BE... Not sure what Stellaris is like, but if HoI:IV is anything to go by, you will want to turn off some of the fancy effects. Elite Dangerous is probably a step too far, if you want it to be enjoyable anyway.

Looks like PCPER have some slides I haven't seen:

    https://www.pcper.com/news/Processor...-Coming-Feb-12

It looks the Ryzen 5 2400G has the full Vega 11 IGP with 704 shaders.

Has the memory controller been tweaked??

Re: AMD details 2018 plans for Ryzen CPUs

... AMD didn't announce the exact GPU frequency for these [desktop] models ...
AMD's own press release (http://www.amd.com/en-us/press-relea...2018jan07.aspx) lists the desktop APU peak GPU clocks as 1250MHz for the R5 2400G and 1100MHz for the R3 2200G.

More than looks like - it's exactly what everyone's reported (and also what the official AMD release linked above says, too). So the R5 2400G GPU is 704 shaders @ up to 1250MHz.

Given that the Ryzen 5 uses the full 11 CUs on the Raven Ridge die, I do wonder if Ryzen 7 APUs will be a CPU die + dGPU on one package a la Intel Kaby-G*. Certainly the 1.7mm z-height announcement on Vega Mobile dGPUs suggests they've licensed Intel's EMIB solution, at which point it wouldn't be too much trouble to slap a CPU die on a package as well...

    EDIT:

Re that CPU performance slide; the 2200G and 2400G have higher clock speeds than the 1200 and 1400, which makes those performance increases look less than stellar, IMNSHO - looks like the IPC drops off with the reduction to 4MB of L3 cache...

*EDIT 2: That would actually tie in with the leaked slide we saw showing there would be "Ryzen Gaming" APUs in the premium mobile market - if they were also an EMIB package like the Kaby-G parts.

Precisely. The 2200G has the same clocks as the 1300X, but will be slower. Still, it's priced lower than the 1200 was priced and includes a GPU, so it certainly looks like good value.

The new Intel-AMD chips have Vega 24 (though it's not called that officially, I think).

I've done some more reading around and it looks very much like the 2200U is actually a salvaged Raven Ridge part. So I'm officially turning my excitement down a notch.

Oh indeed; it's more than fast enough for day to day use, and having a 512 shader Vega IGP @ 1100MHz it should make a decent stab at current e-sports games and a lot of older games with plenty of eye-candy on. The 2200G is definitely on my list if I have enough money to replace the HTPC innards this year
