    It has its uses.
But it should have been both opt-in only, and far more transparent as to what it can collect and use.
Which is also applicable to much larger portions of Windows 10.

Whatever you think of W10, at least Microsoft are trying to streamline and clean things up, which in my book can only help.

Microsoft should be pushing Cortana to a stand alone device like Google Home Mini than irritating us with it on PC which is doing other processing intensive important stuff

The best thing Microsoft can do with Cortana is get rid of it from Windows 10 altogether, failing that, at least make it possible to completely stop it.

They do, there's a device called the Invoke. The more likely course if Cortana fails they'll allow 3rd party ones in. So much like you choose your default email client you'll be able to choose if you want your data slurped by Amazon or Google.

I don't mind them including it, I do mind them making it always on.

Re: Microsoft Cortana to move from Search to Action Centre

I did remove cortana on a number of occasions but it causes issues further down the road when a major update comes out, so I have given up and just have it hidden, I don't have a problem with it being included in windows, I just wish I had a viable choice of whether I personally have it installed or not.

Educational, too. It can teach them the A-Z of countries Daddy's data will end up in.

Re: Microsoft Cortana to move from Search to Action Centre

Essentially it's one of those features I have turned off in Windows 10, along with many other "privacy" lacking features included in Windows 10 that are enabled by default. It's slightly annoying having to go back through them on major updates, when they magically seem to be re-enabled or new ones added.

You haven't been able to disable Cortana (without tweaking in the registry) in win 10 for some time.

I have it disabled so they can stick it where they like (preferably where the sun doesn't shine), it will still be disabled on my pc's.

You can disable it using group policy editor if using Windows 10 Pro.

According to Microsoft Cortana can't be entirely turned off, although i get the feeling we're discussing semantics hear.

Re: Microsoft Cortana to move from Search to Action Centre

To clear up the above, you can't remove it officially, but you can use powershell to completely remove it from your system, however, as I said above it can cause issues later on down the line when there is a major windows update, so I wouldn't recommend it.
