I know you can still play the original in DOSBOX and there's CorsixTH, but I still can't hide my delight that they're bringing it up to date. If it's half as good as the original and keeps the same format and feel it will be brilliant.
Theme Hospital is one of the best games ever in my opinion, and I don't say that lightly.
I can still play "Dr Frog" from the original game on the keyboard... just.
This time around budgets will be impossible to manage and patients will keep dying from illnesses unrelated to why they were admitted!
Definitely looking forward to this and "project hospital" (http://oxymoron.games/projecthospital/). I still play the original Theme Hospital occasionally and it really is just as fun as when I first played in 97 :)
Just read the NHS have an early release version to train middle management to deal with modern pressures the NHS is seeing. Should mean Two Point won't be a walk in the park, under funded, under staffed with people dying waiting to see a doctor.
'Two surgeons required in operating theatre!'....
Still got the original working fine on Linux (under WINE), running at its best 640x480 VGA resolution. Not sure how many actually played this at 320x200 MCGA lo-res!
"Ladies and gentleman, the player is now cheating"
Man, I love the classic. They better do this right and keep micro transactions and loot boxes as far away from it as possible.
When I read up on project hospital recently I was interested but a bit underwhelmed by the planned serious tone of the gameplay, so the announcement of this has just filled me with delight!
I hoped in the past that Hospital Tycoon was going to be the spiritual successor, but Codemasters seemed to abandon that pretty quickly without fixing the bugs.
Hopefully this one will turn out much better, especially as I'd imagine that the studio these two creators set up would actually continue development and fix any bugs present when it is released.
They've done an interview elsewhere explaining that they see this as the first game in an overarching world (known as Two Point County,) where they plan different games to take place. So we could well see a theme park, zoo or any other type with the same art style and humour later on. They did say there may not be too much direct interaction between games but if they're trying to build a world maintaining support long term would be a good first step.
Its also not done Paradox any harm.
Memories of Theme Hospital come flooding back, just hope this lives up to it and even surpass those.
Just booted up theme hospital again and it still plays well, then I had a visitor to my hospital... OBE Bobby Saville...
That joke has not aged well.
