Re: Team HEXUS Products of 2017

No wonder AMD are always going to struggle, they have their best CPU year since probably the K7 and you guys still give the CPU of the year to Intel.......

Yes single core IPC is still behind but price and number of cores make up for that, it's not that far behind.

Re: Team HEXUS Products of 2017

I have to mirror this, Ryzen was the product of the year. Yes, even as pointed out about single core, Ryzen kicked the market up like nothing else this year.
Grab that. Get that. Check it out. Bring that here. Grab anything useful. Take anything good.

What does the 8700k & that motherboard do that an 1800X in this board doesn't? How is that worth the £80 premium on scan right now?

Re: Team HEXUS Products of 2017

I agree, Ryzen should definitely have been CPU product of the year. The fact of the matter is that the desktop CPU market had been utterly stagnant for most of a decade, prior to the release of Ryzen. If Ryzen hadn't been released, I wonder how much longer we'd be stuck with 4 core / 8 thread desktop CPUs? It's ironic that the 8700K almost certainly wouldn't exist were it not for Ryzen.

Single thread performance. For games like Guild Wars 2 that are single threaded and rely on the CPU instead of GPU to draw most of the graphics, a 8700K clocked at 5.0GHz will always give better results than a 1800X, which can only reach around 4.0GHz

I'd like to know why this list is missing Seasonic for its power supplies. The Seasonic Prime Titanium range has great reviews from Hardocp and other reviewers, but it doesn't get a mention here. Instead they promote a Platinum rated psu from Corsair

Probably comes down to value. Don't get me wrong, I love Seasonic PSUs - I've got one in my current PC - but you do pay for their quality.

That game's from 2012, and since it was possible to run it on launch (back when ivy bridge was new!), it'll run just fine on ryzen. You won't hit 200 fps at 128x128, but that's irrelevant to actually playing games. All games available today are either GPU bound, or written for much less powerful hardware

I'm not so sure. Guild Wars 2 has a very intensive game mode called World vs World. You get 250 players crammed into a small space, each firing visually flashy skills and spells at each other in huge zerg vs zerg actions. Old computers will slow to a crawl. But will the 1800X?
