The reason for the big differences between the two main bean counters is due to the way they measure things, IIRC NetMarketShare measures unique visitors whereas StatCounter doesn't, basically StatCounter measures how busy an OS is on the internet and NetMarketShare measures individual users.

It wouldn't surprise me if the talkative nature of Windows 10 is weighting StatCounter's measurements, not that there's any evidence to substantiate my opinion.

Same with cars, why buy a new one if the one you have suits your needs.

I'll continue with W7 at work beyond its death, like I still do with XP at home for 1 machine.
It has & does everything I need it to do and performs brilliantly.

I dont believe Windows 10 will be the last windows ever, even popular products change their names eventually to try to attact new customers. Im just waiting for M$ to break their promise and give us an alternative OS to gripe about (Windows 20?). I could be waiting a very long time as they seem to be very slow to take the hint that their marketing choice was wrong. Maybe their tactic is to just stick their fingers in their ears until everyone that remembers Windows 2000 and XP dies from old age?

Your "moaning and complaining" is other people's "valid opinion, judiciously exprsssed, and in my case, often because someone asks "why do you say that?" or "What's wrong with it?" When asked, sincerely, in an oytright manner I answer. Also, when some Win10 fanboys start espoysing it's merits, I like to provide a counter-view.

To be clear, Win10 has a lot goibg for it. But, it has a number if things mitigating against it, and for any discerning user, it's a case of :-

1) Educate oneself on both upside and downside, then
2) Decide which, for you, outweighs which

If upside > downside, then upgrade to Win10.

However, for me, downside > upside.

I, and anybody else that concluded that, then needs to :-

3) Evaluate what alternatives there are, their suitability, and the costs involved.

And finally, :-

4) Given the results of 3), is the cost, hassle, and time demands of moving justified by the downside, or should you because, while downside > upside it is not sufficiently so to pay the various costs of moving.

In my case, yes, downside was significantly > upside, and for my needs, sufficiently so to commit to the hassle of moving. So, Linux installed, Linux alternatives to some Windows software installed, and some Win-only legacy applications are sitting on machines still running Win7, or even XP.

Am I "now running Win10 anyway"? Hell no, and nor will I EVER do so. I'm keeping Win systems I already have, including Office, not least for Access. But while I might have to forego new Win (or Office) features, those machines still quite happily do what they always have done, which is what I actually need.

So .... darn, I'll have to live without Cortana.

Well you win the prize for arogant post of the day.

I preordered W7 before its release, weighed up the pros and cons of W10 and didn't 'upgrade'. I have no usual moan/complain/going on and on history with any OS.

Still on W7 btw. Pros and cons and all that.

The point being why it has taken so long given that Microsoft all but forced users to upgrade?

And the underlying point was consumer resistance - in some cases justified - to that coercion, and other legitimate concerns about the product, particularly when superficially it offered little improvement over Windows 7 other than a new GUI.

Of course it overtakes Win7 , had to. Forced on you with a new PC , thrown at you like a carrot to a donkey with free upgrade.I hate the look of it and the forced updates but fortunately I'm not allowed to use over security issues. AS big a pile of dung as Millenium Edition was , sorry no , this is worse.I've never been one to slag off M.S. over Windows but this pile of garbage they can poke where the sun don't shine.

Honestly I don't see a huge amount of difference on the front end between Windows 7 and Windows 10. If anything I'm much more inclined to revert to 7 due to the [insert expletives] update system in Windows 10. Pretty much everything about Windows 10 in system settings is clunky and very un-intuitive with mixed UI going back and forth between the older way and the new way (which seems to have less options at first glance).

I've already reverted an older PC back to Windows 7, it runs much slower on Windows 10 and kept blue screening. No blue screens since going back.
