Only 400mhz?
I'm torn between welcoming a (possible) third player in the mainstream discreet GPU market and shunning another scumbag GPU maker.
Interesting times are ahead.
I guess this is the steps towards an AI co-processor as the long term goal, more so than it is gaming. NVidia is running away with that market at the moment which is bad for both AMD and Intel.
Larrabee strikes back?
It sounds like this is designed more as a drop in upgrade to support newer video standards (things like .265 can't be hardware accelerated on their older built in GPUs,) than trying to take on the gaming GPU market. At least initially. Obviously the only question the investors will ask is how well does it mine?
Low clock speeds. High efficiency. "Workload" focused. Intel makes a play for the mining market?
Looks like a test chip to get their power management right. Interesting that they are putting the effort in, but no indication of what any product might do.

It will probably be defective CPU's with the GPU working or something like that.
Actually what you see is just technical verification chip for power and performance control. The 'gpu' there is just something to test with.
Intel has sent in an update to the published story and slides:
"Last week at ISSCC, Intel Labs presented a research paper exploring new circuit techniques optimized for power management. The team used an existing Intel integrated GPU architecture (Gen 9 GPU) as a proof of concept for these circuit techniques. This is a test vehicle only, not a future product. While we intend to compete in graphics products in the future, this research paper is unrelated. Our goal with this research is to explore possible, future circuit techniques that may improve the power and performance of Intel products."
