Terrible specs, but for £95, what can you expect. The blurb about the flag is a nod to the UKIP crowd too, should sell in droves...

If this where a real Acorn it would be costing £200 more than a regular Android and actually be interesting...

C5 was a Sinclair electric buggy. Stupid name for a phone named after things from the 80's.

Re: Acorn Computers announces its first smartphone, the Micro C5

Seems like an alright phone for the price, second time I've seen claims about being a "British" phone manufacturer and just rebadging chinese phones though. I don't particularly care so long as it works, but Wileyfox did the same thing with their series of phones I believe, the swift atleast is a rebadge of a chinese phone but can't remember which off the top of my head.

Re: Acorn Computers announces its first smartphone, the Micro C5

Well they didn't do a great job at proof reading their own marketing blurb.

We arnt trying to be in the same premium market as these giants
I'm guessing that they get a cheap deal on the handsets and the back panel is a cheap re-brand exercise, along with a custom software keyboard, for quick easy profits. 3000 units is the minimum they could probably order. Either that or i'm really getting cynical for my age.

I do recall the BBC Micro and Archimedes fondly though, there was a great tank game for the Archimedes....

OK it isn't a Model S. You have to remember what death traps the cars of the day were for context as well

Plenty of cycle paths around here. Even with the optional flags on the back I wouldn't be suicidal enough to take one on the road!

Given previous Acorn machines called the Electron and the Atom and this is a radio device it should be called something like the Photon.

It should also come loaded with Zarch, preferably updated for Google Cardboard compatibility.

I'd rather back an 'Archimedes Mini' with added BBC emulation.

Before it's time mainly because battery technology at the time meant using lead-acid batteries. The Wiki says 30KG without a battery and 45KG with one, meaning the battery was around 15KG but only provided 35Ah @ 12V. While 420Wh doesn't sound so bad but I guess the motor wasn't that efficient either.

But the real problem Sinclair had was that the C5 was released in the wrong country. In the Netherlands with almost universal segregated cycle paths, a covered pedal assisted vehicle would be quite nice. Here, having to mix with Topgear boy racers and generally inconsiderate drivers, it is just too dangerous.

    Probably Conqueror.

Now, if they would make the phone have something akin to Continuum and bung RISC OS into it, I'd die of nostalgia.
