Re: Vodafone and partners to setup 4G network on the moon
Prefer Vodafone to give me a reliable signal in Horsham first. Save me having to stand in the corner of the bedroom to make a call.
Re: Vodafone and partners to setup 4G network on the moon
My friend in Mississippi USA can not get cable to his house but the Moon will have it before he does...this world is sick
Re: Vodafone and partners to setup 4G network on the moon
What would be amusing is that they do this and find no sign of the Apollo 17 lunar roving vehicle or the flag that got left behind in the 1960's.

No, the devices on the moon will have a communications system based on cellular technology - which is not quite the same thing!

Just no. Charity execs are busy paying off mortgages, sports cars and <Admin edited - language in disaster zones with your money. They should be spending more on space - it is literally the only endeavour that redeems our species.

Perhaps this is a long term plan to move Trump out of the way as he can still get Twitter up there.
Re: Vodafone and partners to setup 4G network on the moon
Could that content like roaming charges? :whip:

Pigs in space?
Ah no, The Muppets have already done that one.

I imagine that they are there on the Moon, otherwise there would be some sudden fire at SpaceX or malfunctions that nobody could explain. Anything to block them to do this.
We will see anyway.
As for Audi, hope they are diesels, as the voyage will be long. Diesels are perfect when doing lots of kilometers/miles. ;-)
And that 4G network will be local Moon network, so no worries for roaming costs if you are too close to the Moon (whoever lives close to any border understands this).
Re: Vodafone and partners to setup 4G network on the moon
So if an astronaut approaches the base station, I hope their mobile picks up the base station and bings "Welcome to The Moon."

Local calls are free, but calls to your home planet will be £1,000 per minute, and interrupted by Solar weather and annoying beeps
Re: Vodafone and partners to setup 4G network on the moon
i would have thought that satellites would have been a more practical way of doing it- for the same reasons we have them around the earth; the moon`s horizon is considerably nearer than on terra, for instance.
but then, as others in this thread have pointed out, this is about corporations waving their e-peens at each other rather than any real `need` to do it.

No
It isn’t, it’s about using the most cost effective and efficient technology for the task in hand which happens to be a gsm protocol and a cellular topology - which is also used for point to point communications terrestrially.
