Now I can't wait for them to do movies and TV series version of this... I can't wait to see some clips of some resident evil or the walking dead scenes. This is the stupidity of this all, as you can blame everything except the core of the problem. The irony is they did not tag a rating on that video they ripped together and uploaded, nor did they show the ratings for each clip set by the game.
I'm finding myself wondering if Trump has a problem perceiving the difference between fictional settings and fact, blaming something fictional really does ignore the real issues. Also, he isn't exactly unbiased considering he is funded with money from the NRA.
Perhaps appoint someone completely unbiased to research any possible correlation between video games and other forms of media prior to making stupid comments. Blaming one thing while ignoring the larger picture really does make him look stupid.
Trump "in listening mode" - No.
He only listens to himself.
Him highlighting a minority of studies and ignoring the majority does not make for evidence, not that he has ever needed any.
Other countries with the same access to the games aren't have the problems the US is having.
He isn't like that. He challenged some studies results with results of his own. Neither argument is final or conclusive, and that "established that..." line is just that, a line. "The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) is the U.S. association representing companies that publish computer and video games." It's a trade group. They're hardly in a position to be objective, whereas the President has to lead one way or another.
The quality of the studies in question are inherent properties of the studies. Each one suitably, coherently designed is a piece of evidence. It's easier to draw a conclusion from a preponderance of evidence, however truth isn't a property of consensus (or who has the burden of proof - itself a misnomer), or vice versa and evidence isn't proof.
My question is why has the violence gotten so graphic and anatomical? What is so important in a video game about war? I can kind of see the appeal of specific, x-ray style bone and brain crushing damage in a fighting game, or a horror game, but that kind of thing is superfluous in something like Fallout, let alone some WW2 shooter.
It's nice that the White House chose to release a 'recommended games' video. I'm sure that would help sales.
If video games are responsible for violence then how come we don't have people sneaking into building sites and making weird structures from all those bricks they have laying around. ;)
I think it is healthier than things like the old A-Team TV program where bullets fly everywhere and a helicopter flys into a mountain, then the baddies surrender with slightly tussled hair and not so much as a scratch. Lets not teach kids that machine guns have no consequences. Violence should be messy.
The purpose of academic or scientific research paper is to is to either prove or disprove a hypothesis and in turn convert it into a thesis. This is done by presenting facts, evidence and a conclusion that can be peer reviewed and accepted by the scientific community.
Saying "established that..." as a line is not a line, that is an affirmation of a conclusion. Here is an example:
"I have established that when I eat a flaming hot curry I taste it a second time from another of my other orifices the next day."
And another:
"I have established that when freezing cold air flows across from Siberia from the east coupled with a hurricane coming in from the west lead to a rapid decline in temperature and gave the south of England the first substantial amount of snow in years."
The word "established" is not an ambiguity and will only be one when used with other words that define the results have not been found yet.
This is my favourite paper on the topic and is one of the first search hits: https://www.apa.org/pubs/journals/fe...ppm0000030.pdf
This is because it covers, cites and references multiple other peer reviewed research papers to establish that there is no evidence that links an increase in public violence with violent video games.
Amusingly, they actually found that post a large spike in game sales led to a drop in violence for a period of time after.
And very few papers (if any) have been published, peer reviewed and accepted by the academic communities that find a correlation between video/media violence and real world violence.
And frankly, Trump is like that. He will barely accept any fantasy that has not been generated by himself, he follows his own self perpetuating view of the world.
