Not exactly a good situation for them (haven't heard of the comapny either) but the staff should be grateful that it sounds like they're going to paid for the work they've done up until the end of the month, I've seen articles about plenty of places going bust and not paying their staff.

That's rubbish. Done very well buying used games/used consoles from Grainger. Cheaper than GAME or CEX by a way for used consoles/games (I got more exchange value for my 3ds at CEX than I paid for the console from Grainger 6 months previously). Hope the staff can get re-employed quickly.

I had heard of Grainger Games due to mentions over on HUKD, but I thought it was only one brick-and-mortar shop plus a website.

Good to hear that staff will be paid up until the end of the month, but obviously sad that they will be losing their jobs.

I've never even heard of this store. That's the problem with small chains; you've lost the charm of being a boutique/single store, but don't have the chops to compete against the high street herd

They're not that small, strong in the north of England particularly. I first heard of them a couple of years ago when they sponsored the golden joystick awards and got a lot of bad press for turning up drunk, talking loudly through the ceremony and propositioning some of the models that these events tend to have.

GAME wouldn't surprise me, given that it's already happened once to them.

CeX I think probably has a better chance at sticking around, although it's obviously not risk-free.

Sad to see the people who I knew as a canny set of market traders in Newcastle (the name is from Grainger Market) who expanded so fast and impressively suddenly just... collapse under the pile of trash that is the physical games sales market in the UK. What isn't bought from supermarkets is either bought digitally or from Amazon now, and there's little to no room to compete. It's unsustainable, and I doubt Game have a very healthy future either.
