Hrm, if there's no overly weird logo on the top of the lid, this is a really nice understated but decent looking laptop ... and for a pretty nice price! Hope it arrives in the EU/UK sometime, some competition for Alienware/Razer etc would be lovely.

Interesting but I would definitely want to see some reviews first. The chassis looks like it has potential to be cheap and not very rigid and the hinges for the lid don't look very solid.

Re: Xiaomi Mi Gaming Laptop starts at under $1000

I'm glad they are coming in to the market - from a design perspective, it actually looks like a competitor to the XPS15.
However, i'd really want a back to back review (vs HP and Dell's main machines) because if it retails for over £1000 (1050ti) and over £1400 (1060) then im not sure about the value....
most of all, with a 7 series intel CPU at the helm in mid-2018??

Not amazing value, with the likely 1:1 £:$ conversion that's pretty standard pricing for a laptop with that hardware

It's not a bad choice, the only 8th gen mobile intel chips are either 15 W quad cores (so can't hold a candle to the 45 W 7th gen quads) or the rebadged "G" chips (so 45 W 7th gen quad cores)

Xiaomi stuff is never available in the UK/EU without having to import it yourself. Which when spending this much is simply not worth the risk.

I kinda wish they would've stuck with a 15w chip, it seems like they're still pretty good for gaming and it would've extended battery life quite considerably.

Doesn't look all that interesting to me. Weren't 1050 Ti laptops going for about £800?

Although I very much like the look, I cannot in good conscience go for a laptop like this with all that GeForce Partner Program nonsense that Nvidia is pulling.

I don't think Xiaomi is a GeForce Partner yet, unless you mean just supporting NVIDIA at all .
