Only, there weren't meant to be any suffixes for the RX series cards - they were meant to use the final digit to indicate a revision of the same card (i.e. a revised RX580 should be an RX585).

Basically, AMD's 'announced' card-naming schemes are worthless and get discarded as soon as the marketing people get involved, AFAICT...

I've seen some reports say that the AMD Radeon RX 560X, for example, is a clock bumped version of the RX 560M. Evidence of this is in an official Acer Nitro laptop listing here.

It would seem better to put effort into the high end, something like a Vega 96 would do the trick. However, if Nvidia are about to release an improved GTX1160 then AMD could do with a decent bump to the RX 580.

To be fair, if they're just sticking an X on the end I wouldn't call it a rebrand. It's still a RX 560, just an 'X' one.

Also makes me wonder if the old cards will stay on sale for some time. If there was a lack of ram to make cards then there could be a warehouse full of old chips somewhere.

Weren't AMD meant to be getting better about not ending up with stockpiled chips?!

Best case scenario is probably a Polaris respin onto 12nm to help nudge the clock speeds up a bit in the same TDPs. Worst case scenario is that they're literally old Polaris chips that are overvolted to wring the last drop of performance out of them and they'll chew through the wattage to do it. And probably cost +10% because there's an extra letter in the name...
