Or without the RGB lights £77 ( @ Amazon) for what appears to be exactly the same memory.

Honestly seems a bit desperate from Crucial. They are trying to cash in on the RGB craze because they clearly have hit a performance wall with their memory and are continuing to fall behind the competition like that have done for the last few years.

Re: Crucial releases Ballistix Tactical Tracer RGB DDR4 Gaming Memory

Only a noob would be paying decent money for an RGB 2666MHZ and 3000MHZ set. Yes,2666MHZ which is not even that quick by modern DDR4 standards.

This was the kind of stuff which cost under £70 for 16GB of 3000MHZ DDR4 in 2016.

This is just Crucial palming off cheapo RAM to clueless people, who would rather have subpar performance in their computer. I could even understand if it was higher end stuff blinged out since it fits with the territory.

    Edit!!

Also look at the timings - they are terrible even at 2666MHZ. 16-18-18?? Only a person who knows nothing about computers would be buying this. This is sub-par stuff being tarted up to fool people who are not computer savvy out of their hard earned cash.

    £94 for a single 8GB 2666MHZ DIMM??

You can get a dual channel 8GB 3000MHZ Corsair set for £94:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CMK...00MHZ+DDR4+8GB

    It also,has 15-17-17 timings too.

You can get Patriot 3000MHZ DDR4 dual channel kit with 16-18-18 timings for £91:

    https://www.cclonline.com/product/24...y-Kit/RAM3628/

    16GB of 3000MHZ DDR4 with 15-17-17 timings is £170:

    https://www.cclonline.com/product/24...lack-/RAM3700/

Plus if you want 16GB and RGB:

    https://www.cclonline.com/product/22...y-Kit/RAM3411/

    That is a G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB RGB 3200MHZ kit with 16-18-18 timings for £201.

Two of the Ballistix Tactical Tracer RGB DDR4 8GB DIMMs running at 2666MHZ,would cost you £188.

So it fails on speed, timings and even RGB.

Re: Crucial releases Ballistix Tactical Tracer RGB DDR4 Gaming Memory

My tests found that it wasn't that slow to be honest, and it pulled in the best results for gaming...

    Plus, it overclocks well.

    You can get a G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB RGB 3200MHZ kit with 16-18-18 timings for £201:

    https://www.cclonline.com/product/22...y-Kit/RAM3411/

Ebuyer has the Corsair Vengeance LED 16GB 3000MHZ kit with 15-17-17 timings for £168 delivered:

    https://www.ebuyer.com/752485-corsai...gx4m2c3000c15r

    The 3200MHZ version with 16-18-18 is £188:

    https://www.ebuyer.com/752487-corsai...6gx4m2c3200c16

Plus you can get 16GB of 3000MHZ of non-RGB RAM with 16-18-18 timings for £168 delivered:

    https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team-...MaAsRUEALw_wcB

16GB of the Crucial RGB stuff at 2666MHZ with 16-18-18 timings is £188:

Pricing is poor even if you want LEDs on your RAM.

The 8GB pricing is poor too, since you can get fast dual channel kits for less money too.

ISTR they were one of the first to do RGB stuff, before there even was a craze?
I've had their DDR3 Tactical Tracers ever since it came out, back when RAM was actually cheap and their offering was among the fastest and cheapest...

Glad to see they're doing TT in DDR4, but not so sure the new design is all that. I prefer point lights over diffused or area.
At least they seem to offer proper patterns and customisation, rather than just the boring Cycling Rainbow demo-mode like most RGB.

But then with such a string of free advertising posts from all the RGB haters, I suppose Crucial have no hope and will soon go bust, leaving the market open for the fewer brands to command even higher prices. Agh shame...

Trying to implicate any criticism of a Crucial product as saying the people making the criticism want the company to go bust is a strawman at best.

I like Crucial SSD products a lot and probably via my recommedations on forums and in the realworld, have probably plonked a decent amount of money their way,but after showing 12 links of cheaper and faster DDR4 kits with no LEDs,single colour LEDs,and RGB LEDs that people still need to defend an overpriced product, which is slower and has worse timings,it does make me wonder.

But I suppose for you Crucial should continue to sell 3000MHZ RGB kits for over £220 when you can get 3600MHZ RGB kits for a few quid cheaper from a competitor, and non-RGB 3000MHZ kits for over £50 cheaper.

Crucial needs to step up their game here.

Yet,if they even bothered to take 5 minutes to look at some retailers, they would see how overpriced the RAM is,whether you want LEDs or not.

Lucky I wasn't saying that, then, eh...
Whether you want them to go bust or not, freely advertising everyone else's stuff will impact their sales and eventually they'll end up just not bothering. People will then be whining because the lack of choice and competition gives those remaining companies a high-price monopoly. Nvidia already enjoy that position.

So it's nothing to do with your wall of text and sales links all over the place, instructing me what I should and shouldn't buy, then?

I remember being told not to get a particular GPU once, because it was the slowest and most expensive of the lot at the time... and yet it overclocked to significantly outperform all the others. What an idiot noob I was, eh!!

They can sell whatever they like for however much they like. If people want it, it'll sell. If not, it won't sell. Nothing to worry about.

Its not my fault you CBA to even look at a few retailers, especially when it was pointed out by multiple people it was not a great spec for the price and there was better and cheaper stuff out there. Then to avoid even looking at the links, you use the good old "wall of text" argument so you can ignore it all,and then this will turn into a circular argument to obfuscate the original point,so I am not going to bother replying to you again in this thread.

Even that G.Skill 3600MHZ RGB kit apparently has Samsung B.Die chips which are some of the best RAM chips out there. Even a number of other RAM kits which places like OcUK sell(who are always not that cheap) are guaranteed Samsung B.Dies, and have very low timings, and still cost less than even the 2666MHZ Crucial kits(oh! noes! another link):

    https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team-...my-08l-tg.html

So,RGB,LED,overclockability, timings,RAM speed, etc all on cheaper or better specified kits for a similar price - not sure what any of this has to do with "RGB Haters" or Crucial going bankrupt. Crucial took some of their bog standard kits, plonked some LEDs on it and charged decent money for it,with loads of competing companies - what should some of us applaud that??

    Okaaaaaaaaaay!!

It's more the attitude of "Buy what I tell you or you're a stupid noob" that just makes me ignore your massive lectures on such things.

OK, so what car should everyone buy?
Because whatever you come up with, I'm sure there's a better spec for the price, as well as better cars for less money.... and the same applies to pretty much everything else.

Now I'm sure I'm wrong here and you'll tell me all about it, again with links galore, but I do get the sneaking suspicion that some people quite knowingly just might purchase products that are not the absolute optimum balance of price/performance, purely because it has other features (maybe even aesthetic ones) that they actually want...

No, I ignore it because I don't have a motherboard that uses DDR4.
I use the wall of text argument, because all you've shown me is a bunch of sales pages with prices and supposed timings. The one piece of useful information, from Hoonigan regarding some actual testing of prduct performance, was just met with more wallet-waving and of no interest whatsoever.

Why even bother in the first place, then...

RGB is clearly something some people want and such buyers may well be the kind who don't need the most ultra-fastest über RAM at the tightest possible price. Crucial seem to have addressed that market element, yet you'd have everyone buy what you think is best for your needs?

They even have more comprehensive RGB than G.Skill, whose own attempts have had quite a few compatability issues anyway.

If people buy it, then yeah. It'd prove they know their market well enough.
