It's about time VR got a mainstream resolution bump. Now as soon as Nvidia releases its next line of cards the world can really dig in to some great looking VR with little performance trouble.

Vive Pro + Vive (which includes above accessories) = £1298.00

Either way I can't justify that expense when I already have a Rift which much better controllers, which is currently available for £399.00

Past that I am not paying for a better GPU to power a higher resolution... thanks miners...

You can snag 1070 and 1070 Tis for a pretty good price right now. 530-550 for a 1070 and only 610 for a 1070 Ti MSI Duke.

Prices and stock are coming back to normalish levels.

Is that in USD? Because if I recall the MSRP for the 1070 was $350 and most cards hovered around $400 early on. Crypto can't die/become less GPU dependent fast enough.

Overclockers have 1070 cards around £470, the 1070ti for £530. From memory that's about £100 more than they used to be, and I would have thought they were pretty marginal for an HMD at this resolution anyway. The 1080ti seems to start around £820, which again seems about £100 over but as a percentage that might seem easier to wear.

If the Vega 56 gets back down to £450 then I'm buying one, but they are still around £750 and dropping really slowly

I think you would have to be mad to buy an Nvidia card at the current prices unless you really need the card because yours has blown up. With the new cards, supposedly, just around the corner why spend money on tech that is at least 18 months old already?

I'd have to justify it, as I find the Rift to be terrible for reading text in Elite. I can't recall how bad the Vive CV1 was, but I think it had problems as well.
My only hope is either Obi Wan Kenobi helping out, or a better res HMD.

Wow, people saying the 1070 is a good price right now? I bought a pretty good model of 1070 for £420 back before the prices went crazy, and that is still less than some of the "meh" models are going for even now. The prices are not good right now AT ALL.

If the Vive Pro included the base station 2.0 and controllers for the £799 price, then I'd be tempted to sell my Rift and switch over to get the increased resolution.
It's an absolute rip-off at that price though. Especially as it's $799 in the states. It ought to therefore be about £575 in the UK, taking into account exchange rates.
It's so unfair to penalise the UK like that.
