The office one was bought to replace a projector, now THAT had issues in daylight.
Absolutely - OLED is really needed to make the most of HDR - it has a much better dynamic range and really good blacks. A friend has the LG55" Ultra HD and the sense of 3D is amazing simply because of the visual clues you get from the definition and dynamic range - and without the artificiality the stereoscopic 3D introduced.

It would be the TV I would buy if I had the space (but not to watch the world cup thingy on - which I won't be watching on anything!)

    It isn't. It's next year!

But, no, I won't be buying a new TV.

This has got to be the easiest QOTW ever and the answer is no. I do not like football.

I don't even watch football, never-mind buying a completely new TV just for it. I have already have a 4K TV and I'm quite happy with it.

Re: QOTW: Are you buying a new TV for the World Cup?

No, especially as I have absolutely no interest in sport.

But I am also waiting to see how good the NVidia big screen tv's are before I decide on an upgrade.

My TV is just a big display for games anyway.

Well let me think, eh my current TV isn't broken so why would a football competition make me buy a new one? No.

Re: QOTW: Are you buying a new TV for the World Cup?

Well, assuming "World Cup" means football, and not somethibg far more interesting, like, oh, pottery decorating, then perhaps my general reaction to football, which is either to grab the remote and change channel, or to clamp my eyes shut, clap my hands over my ears and run screaming from the room, might suggest my answer.

Put it this way. I'd rather have root canal surgery while my bare-naked rear-end was forced down onto a fire-ant nest, and Spice Girls ..... no wait, Atomic Kitten, songs were played non-stop, than watch football. Sorry about the imagery there.

So, will I be buying a TV for it? On balance, after careful consideration .... probably not.

There's a better chance of me buying a Win10 PC, to use Google to sign up for as much junk mail as I can find, while simultaneously putting all my personal information, including bank passwords, online in public. That is, ummm, no.

Re: QOTW: Are you buying a new TV for the World Cup?

I am in the market for a new tv, Have been for about 2 years. Still on 52inch Sonia Bravia from 2006.
Problem is I would not buy an OLED, Way too much baby sitting it so you don't get burn in.
Just wouldn't work for me and the way I watch and use TV.
Do love the Sony 65inch Z9D, Just hoping they release a gen 2 of it in the next year or so with latest HDMI and and all the other latest tech. Tend to make tv last a long time so I want it with main features that will stand the test of time.
This top end Bravia is still perfect 12 years later, I doubt the same will be with OLED!

Well, I suppose if you like looking at a bright static image for hours at a time, you might get some temporary image retention, but the risk of long term damage is extremely low - much less than for plasma displays.

And if there is any short term retention, it can be easily fixed.

It’s technlogy I’d be looking at if I was in the market for a new TV.

Only if England reach the final....so, no, I'm not even thinking about buying a new TV for the World Cup.

Came here expecting snobby anti-football replies.

    Wasn't disappointed.

Don't think there is any snobbishness - a question was asked and people have answered - mainly those who have no interest in football.

So are you going to get a new TV to specifically watch the (football) world cup?
