Nope, for one I have no real interest in the world cup (or football in general) and the tv I have now are more than good enough for what I use them for. Now if it was broken and needed replacing then yeah I'd go out and get one but it wouldn't be 'just because' something is happening.

Nope. 22 grown men kicking something round around a field does not garner my interest. If you enjoy football and it's a good enough excuse to spend on an upgrade though, good luck.

As Peter said, no snobbishness. But contrary to what many football fans seem to think, not everybody shares their enthusiasm.
In my case, it dates back to school sports. I have NO interest in team games. Didn't then, don't now. But it didn't stop several years worth of school sports teachers trying their best, by making me play. Well, making me go out on the field, anyway. Anyhow, it bred a growing, and eventually seething resentment. I remember one teacher telling me "stand there, mark that spot". So I did. 20 minutes later the ball rolled past me about a 18 inches outside my reach. I ignored it. Teacher called me a rude name and asked why I didn't play it. "Because you told me to mark this spot, and I couldn't reach it.
About then, a teacher discovered that if they got me doing tennis squash, swimming, cross-country, hell even fencing (foil and epee, not the things keeping intruders out of fields) I was right up for it. I ended up county standard at fencing.
But from that day to this, I have zero interest in cricket, rubgy, etc, at vehemently loathe football because several football loving sports teachers used it to try to force me to do what they wanted, and I have hated them for it, and similarly football, ever since.
Nothing snobbish about it. I just loathe it .... which is a reaction many football fans, including many in my family, just can't seem to understand.

Considering that as a nation England are crap (Scotland, Wales and NI are even crappier) and that the much vaunted Premier League is populated with more foreigners than English players i am surprised that most football lovers do like it as most fans are bigots and racists which is ironic as wearing a shirt with another mans name on the back of it has some rather gay insinuations.
Couldn't care less about it TBH.
Have to echo most of what Saracen said - some PE teachers, and people in general having an attitude of 'how DARE you not like watching a bunch of guys kicking a ball', have fuelled a general disdain for the sport. It just properly bores me.
I used to watch only the football world cups, mainly because it was a chance to see some of the best players in the world like Messi.
I think as is evident, it's probably a question aimed at the wrong group of people, or a desperate attempt by manufacturers to keep us unnecessarily updating our products(me cynical!). Now days it all seems so pointless watching a group of spoilt brat(generalisation alert) millionaires prancing around on a field. I was to busy playing chess at school, or using cross country running to bolt around to my friend's house and listen to Hawkwind. Oh and I don't even have a tv to pointlessly upgrade every six months. But enjoy it if it's your thang.
So, I think the football question is answered.
Now, anyone bought a TV to watch the Eurovision Song Contest?
If I see a 65" OLED UHD for under £1200 with 5 year warranty then sure otherwise I'll continue waiting, looking forward to replacing my old 60" 1080p.
I know its billed as sport, and no doubt there is some physical training involved, but basically football (and tbh most professional sports) are part of the entertainment industry - and I dont find football entertaining.
And going back to the original question - it doesnt stop at a TV - you probably need a sky sports subscription as well, as the demands of FIFA and the FA for television rights have forced many broadcasters out of the market, and fuelled the obscene amounts that some platers are paid.
Ironic that there are howls of outrage at the salaries of 'fat cats of industry' and yet silence at the outrageous salaries of professional footballers.
