Re: QOTW: Are you buying a new TV for the World Cup?

I could see why somebody would buy a new TV that needs replacing to coincide with a major event, but I can never understand people that already have a good TV but splash out for a bigger one just to watch the footy, why not just get some tickets to go and see a game or go down the pub? In short my answer is no and never will!

Nope. TVs are like fridges, they get replaced when they break.

Erm, no. I'd totally forgotten that it was even happening... A 'touch' redundant this week Hexus.

The last reason to buy a television for is to watch football
    or soaps
    or reality tv
    or talent shows
    or ...

Re: QOTW: Are you buying a new TV for the World Cup?

    No.

I did buy a 3D TV just in time for the Doctor Who 3D special all those years ago. Was going to buy one anyway, but that pushed the schedule forward a bit and forced me to wire it up to a satellite lnb as fast as I could in time for the show. Shame it was the last 3D content the BBC did

But even then, I was going to buy one anyway as part of a house move and a need for a second set.

No ... I'll probably still be rolling on the floor laughing at this question when it starts anyway.

Re: QOTW: Are you buying a new TV for the World Cup?

Nope. Bought my 65" OLED in the sales leading up to Black Friday. Still stupid expensive, but lost in the immense costs of a house extension to put it in.

Good for gaming and films, mind. Makes the 32" in the lounge seem small...

Re: QOTW: Are you buying a new TV for the World Cup?

Sadly OLED still has too many issues, uniformity, burn in, brightness not really good enough for daylight viewing, motion judder. Sony is the only make that has judder free motion and not interested in the A1 and the AF8 needs to drop in price. Looking more and more likely my next TV will not be OLED.

Spend a lot of money on a new TV to watch a bunch of overpaid, badly behaved, immature pansies kicking a ball? Sod off!

Really? Have you actually had one? I've got an LG 55" OLED in the lounge and a 65" one in my office, and haven't noticed any of those issues, in fact when the HDR/Dolby Vision kicks in it can be almost too bright. The office one was bought to replace a projector, now THAT had issues in daylight.
