Don't want to take the thread anymore OT so I'll only make this one comment on the 2nd amendment, it isn't about the citizenry pushing back against the government it's about the states of the union doing so, yes it was intended to prevent a tyrannical government but it was between the states of the union (arguably the people as they make up each individual state) and the federal government.

It's basically the equivalent of when the barons forced king John to sign the Magna Carta that stated 25 barons could override the king at any time by way of force, the barons are the states of the union and the king is the federal government, how relevant that is in today's world is debatable but i can't see a state like Texas or any other collection of the 50 states organising thier citizenry and marching on capitol hill to overthrow a despotic federal government.

I don't think it's all that off topic, really. It's part of the same overarching conversation on illiberal government overreach. But to address your point:

States are government, too. Citizens may have to push back against their state as much as they may against Washington. Remember, the 2nd amendment enshrines the right of the people to keep and bear arms, not the states. SCotUS actually had to explicitly rule on this in District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008), and McDonald v. Chicago, 561 U.S. 742 (2010), as government got more trigger happy in enacting gun restrictions.

The principle behind US security during its founding was that voluntary militias could be assembled ad hoc against enemies, whether foreign or domestic, as needed, by whomever. In order for that to work, they needed to make sure there was no impediment to citizen weapon ownership. They didn't want a permanent professional military like the British Empire had, they saw it as unnecessary and corrupting. And considering modern day US foreign policy, it's hard to disagree with them on that score.

Not necessarily endorsing the view, but just to lighten up the thread a little and attempt to steer it back on course:

If true, it could be a solution for overpopulation

Headline article: Thousands of fridges being fixed and pizzas being delivered without homeowners' consent. Mustachioed internet porn users to blame!
