Re: Arctic Alpine 12 Passive Intel CPU cooler launched

Quite a few poor reviews of the Alpine 11 Passive, including one idiot complaining it didn't work, as he tried to use it on a socket that is not supported...

A TDP of 47 watts you say, I personally wouldn't put that anywhere near anything beyond 35 in all honesty, but it's still a great idea for a little quiet build!

Only 6 years warranty for a solid block of metal? They're probably worried about the TIM aging

Oh man, I hate to see reviews like that on good products. I think it should be accepted to allow the seller/manufacturer to delete such a review. If it clearly states that it's not compatible or supported, you can't knock the product down because it doesn't work on it! It essentially manipulating.

Anyway, I really would like to see some reviews with some systems using this. I can only think of one reason you'd want a fanless, passive CPU cooler is if you're planning to set up a home media centre and it's going to be close to you that the noise might be an issue. As for claiming it's "Dust and Maintenance Free", well I'd doubt that because dust would still settle on it. It all depends on your set up and environment.

With a passive PSU cooler and maybe one very silent system fan, you could have a really quiet and reasonably cooled system. I've been waiting for something worthwhile to build, but need to see some concepts before I commit.
