Seeing as it appears that mining ETH is no longer profitable - card prices are coming down especially used prices

Exactly. I myself need a new rig but the combo of both high ram and gpu prices means I'm not going to bother.

I was gonna buy a new rig but after RAM pricing went absolutely crazy my older rig seemed fine :D

After many years of building custom machines, I concluded that the best time (at least for me) to build a new rig, is every-time there is a RAM generation change. DDR vs DDR2, DDR2 vs DDR3, DDR3 vs DDR4 and so on...I'm running DDR4 now, so I'll wait until DDR5 comes around. This way you have more time to shop around and can avoid these crazy price jumps.

Just checked the graphics card prices here in Denmark (again) and they (still) seem completely out of whack. The cheapest GTX 1070 is listed at DKR 3632, which roughly translates to GBP 430. Dunno if it's actually available, though.

That's actually a pretty good idea, understandably you wouldn't be able to keep a lot of your older stuff, but if the performance difference is large enough it may be worth it.

Plenty - most are undervolted so would be no different to a gamers card that has been hammered - arguably better. Plus 24/7 useage is probably easier on fans etc. too

But most games are poorly optimised and often bottlenecked elsewhere like network stack or cpu based physics. Undervolted or not, mining is more like running furmark than gaming. I wouldn't want one anyway.
