€481 for a six core... what is Intel smoking?!
Well I just bought a 2600x, same specs but a lower max boost, I'm not paying more than double for a little extra boost, hell the normal i7 isn't worth it for half on top of the price of the 2600x. I like the name though, good to remind people that computers were not invented in 2006 just for candy crush and Facebook.
I'm looking at this thinking it will be a good choice for a top end overclocker system? bit pricey though for a gamer build as would rather opt for a better GPU.
So does this processor suffer from the previous spectre and meltdown issues. Or have they simply patch the mircocode like existing CPUs?
With that in mind I'd rather wait for CPUs that have a proper fix in place not some workaround that affects performance.
Next CPU for me will be Zen based. Intel have lost the plot.
Next it will be the 80286K, being a modern part it will have an integrated A20 gate

(apologies if that 286 bug triggers anyone else who is as old as I am)

I had an original 8086 too! Or rather my dad did. Man it was crappy and slow (running at a massive 5 MHz, yes that's mega not giga) compared to the 286, 386 that were around at the time but out of budget. Had a 30 Mb hard drive (yes that mega not giga or tera). But so began my journey into x86 pc computing...
I built a x86-64 operating system for my compsci 3rd year project and completely forgot to turn on the A20 gate. I spent weeks trying to work out why certain 64-bit physical addresses (those with the 21st bit set) just would not map correctly before I came across that wiki entry.
Nothing makes you appreciate Windows and Linux more than trying to do it yourself and failing miserably for months on end.

Apparently this was the first commercially available one but it was multi-chip:

This is apparently was the first single chip one:
