I think the fact that soooo many tellies will have freesync 2 will mean amd should make a decent comeback.

Re: AMD announces FreeSync support for 20 Samsung QLED TVs

But why would you want freesync if you can't use nvidia. AMD haven't put out even a half-competent 4K card yet, and unless the only reason you want VFR is because it's never going to go above 40 or so, picking a freesync TV for PC gaming just seems like a terrible terrible idea.

As a consumer it's bordering on infuriating that AMD can't seem to get their stuff together and get back in the high end game, because it's given nvidia cause to scale back progress and slow down, as proven with their new release schedule

It is part of the hdmi 2.1 spec and the samsung n8000 have been updated to get freesync(not sure if version 2 or not).

That, amongst other things, are going to put AMD in a very decent position soon. They're kicking all the right shots at the moment.

Xbox One? And more than likely the PS4/5 in the near future? These devices are connected to TVs way more than PCs are. And FreeSync being based on the VESA standard means any device can add compatibility. Be it an Nvidia GPU or a damn Fire TV Stick. FreeSync is likely going to become the standard across almost all panels and Nvidia may be forced to adopt. Especially if VESA decide its a mandatory component of future DisplayPort versions. Nvidia will either need to adopt it or support it on another cable.

As this man said - far more AMD systems connected to tv's and for ease of implementation freesync is miles easier to do. In fact there are about 5 times as many freesync capable monitors/displays out there. NV will have to look at supporting it shortly or be left behind. Plenty of reasons why AMD are behind - but loads of reasons they are actually in front!
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
