Why? They're running DP1.4 in spec - are you suggesting they should break spec? I think that'd be worse for reputation than sticking to the agreed standard.

I tend to agree with afiretruck, they shouldn't have broken specs but one of the main reasons they've given for G-sync is that it allows them more control over the quality of the product, if you want to complete control of an ecosystem then ultimately you're responsible for what happens on it, if DP1.4 can only do HDR 4K at 120Hz then that's what should have been the maximum.

You mean remove the option to do 4K 144hz at 4:2:2?

If you want to do 4K at 120hz then you still can, but I don't think that means you should prevent other people from doing 144hz if that's what they want.

Not so much removing an option, just making it clear that it's HDR 4K at 120Hz, the way their advertising them currently implies you get all three things at once when in fact you can have either 144Hz or HDR but not both. (sorry if I've got the definition of HDR wrong, is HDR 4:2:2?)

It'll be dusted under the rug and no one will say anymore on the matter.
Agreed and I myself am quite disappointed, i'd be furious if I had actually bought such a screen.

I'd probably get a refund or sue the rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbish out of them.

Which definition of HDR do you want to talk about There's isn't anything saying HDR has to be accompanied with unsampled chroma 4:4:4. HDR can be found with 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 chroma . If you go by UHD blu-ray then 4:2:0 is enough (and all you'll find on the discs usually).

For 2 grand they could split it over two cables. It's been done in the past, and would allow for 240Hz 8bit-colour 4k if anything could run that

I expect that decision is in Acer/Asus et al's hands.

Re: G-Sync HDR 4K monitor images are softer or blurred at 144Hz

So when are the ACTUAL 4K 144Hz monitors coming out? With display port 1.5? When does that come out?

Feels like I've been waiting for this monitor for a year now, it's finally out and it's not as advertised

    What a joke

Re: G-Sync HDR 4K monitor images are softer or blurred at 144Hz

There is no display port 1.5 yet. No hard and fast figures for when it will be released or what it will actually bring to the table.
However it was supposed to have been released in 2017 - best guess now is within the next 12 - 18 months

Re: G-Sync HDR 4K monitor images are softer or blurred at 144Hz

So having just watched an interview with AMD on 144Hz 4K HDR Freesync 2 displays would it be correct to say they'll also suffer from this blurring? if it's caused by DP1.4 then I'd guess so but I've not heard anything.

Yup as said - the DP standard simply doesn't have enough bandwidth for 144khz hdr. The new 1.5 standard was expected in 2017 but never arrived

I don't think this has anything to do with G-sync or freesync. It's just a bandwidth limitation on 4k@144hz using dp1.4. Same thing happened back in the early days of FullHD TVs and blu-ray.
I mean with the costs a bit more in check because it's essentially a free product...
Yes it's a dp1.4 limitation but I've read somewhere that you can use dsc and other technologies to help reduce the problem with freesync easier

So the headline should really read DP 1.4 HDR 4K monitor images are softer or blurred at 144Hz, seems odd to point the finger at either AMD or Nvidia as it's an issue with Display Port.
