I've still got one of the original ones. Just about works, though one of the buttons is a bit flimsy these days.

Re: Microsoft Classic IntelliMouse is "a legend reborn"

I had the wired and wireless ones. The wireless one barely works these days, and the wireless one double clicks by itself. That said, the wireless one IMO was my favourite mouse, decent weight with 2 AAs, not bad battery life, comfortable, wireless range was poo but the receiver was within a foot of the mouse for me and at that range it never failed. It lasted longer than my G700s which started double clicking at the end of it's warranty period. G900 is a bit too light IMO, and the battery dies too fast and it's also non-replaceable.

Re: Microsoft Classic IntelliMouse is "a legend reborn"

I got one of these given to me whilst I was on a work experience at the local council. It was an awesome mouse that served me well until I got the MX518... which served me even better.

I must be missing something... This just sounds like the 'rebirth' of the 'legendary' eight-track tapes - ie, amazing back when they first came out, but a joke of an old hat in today's world.

It's an optical mouse, the optical mouse hasn't really been superseded like the 8 track has.

Re: Microsoft Classic IntelliMouse is "a legend reborn"

I think I've still got the original stuffed in a box somewhere in my loft. Unless I lobbed it in the last move. The one thing it did have in its favour was never having to remove the mouse ball to clean out the fluff accumulated over time, I recall those days fondly

sure. Shine both in your eyes. The one that leaves you with permanently impaired vision - that's the laser.

One is an optical mouse. The other gives you an excuse to say "Lay-Zerr" and do the bunny ears thing with your fingers, as an outdated popular culture reference...

I'd have expected not... but actually I probably could.

One way to tell is generally just by looking at the price tag. A "Lay-Zerr" mouse tends to be more expensive - As in One Million Dollars (with the little finger)!

Technically they're both optical, but really the sensitivity is the biggest giveaway. I have several mice and in general I personally do favour "Lay-Zerr" ones, though it's never been a conscious factor when I choose mice.
I haven't really looked at many of the absolute latest mice, though I suspect optical has improved to match... The G900 is Optical, innit?

Pay £40 for a tarted-up old mouse? Methinks not.
