The new MBPs are already available at eye watering cost.
£1749 for entry model I believe
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
lol, is it me or have they bumped the prices up AGAIN....
Even as someone who works in design, where Apple is supposed to be king, I just can't see any justification for their prices these days.
The base models look to be around the price of comparable Windows-based machines (Or were last time I checked at least), CPU with Iris graphics, high res screen / NVMe SSD ect.
I would like to see them revamp the Air into a good "entry" level machine though.
Priced considerably above the Surface Book 2s no?
Not to mention the Surface Laptop would be more comparable to the entry level stuff.
I don't think many people will be wanting a Iris 655 over a 620 considering they could have double the SSD for the price.
The less premium brands are even cheaper. This is kind of expensive.

That's kind of my point, if you cared, you would want something more. No one who turns their nose up at a 620 is going to be in love with a 655.
I am not aware of much performance improvement between the 7th and 8th gen Intel CPUs either.
I can't help but feel it's quite expensive for what it is, that anyone in the target market would probably be better served by something else. The 13" low end pros, I think can't compete with what the Air should be and what the Surface Laptop is.
Edit: oh is it really a 640 in the i5 models?

Building a Surface Laptop to the exact same spec as the entry 13" Macbook pro comes out at £30 more expensive, thats MS site and Apple site.
Like you say though for most users the i5 option with the 620 graphics will likely be enough.
Most Mac users buy because of MacOS though so unless they are looking to build a Hackintosh theres not much point in comparing, I only do it every now and again to show that the "Macbooks are more expensive than Windows machines" line is a myth, like for like spec they come out about the same.
A fairer statement would be to say that you can get Laptops with Windows and a lower hardware spec (Which will again do most people just fine) cheaper.
Erm:
Surface Laptop - 256 GB / Intel Core i5 / 8GB RAM £1,199.00 incl. VAT
Surface Book 2 - 13.5"/ 128GB / Intel Core i5 / British £1,149.00 incl. VAT
MBP 13" 2.3GHz Processor 128GB Storage £1,249.00 (inc VAT)
I know which I'd choose any day of the week.

They will NEVER Turbo up to anything....those chips are thermal throttled for days....It would be like you buying a racehorse and not being able to let it go past a fast walk.
Apple has listed the Blackmagic eGPU with Radeon Pro 580 at $699.
