This was an interesting watch:

Still waiting for AdoredTV's comments and thoughts. But to summarise the video above he's expecting performance to be as follows, all guesstimated:
2080Ti = 20% (max) performance increase over 1080 Ti
2080 = 15% (max) performance increase over 1080 (expects 2080 to be slower than 1080 Ti)
2070 = Expects performance to be around 1070 Ti, slower than 1080
The interesting thing were his thoughts for releasing the 2080 Ti now. He's expecting a 12 month life cycle for these cards and views them as a stop gap until the switch to 7nm fabrication, which makes sense to me. This is an early adopter cash grab and expects the real performance leap to be with the (presumably) 3000 series cards next year employing 7nm tech. Makes perfect sense to me. Of course I expect these to sell out regardless, nVidia has massive mind share and is almost Apple-like in there followers these days. Hence I'm watching stock levels and might even invest in them, but I most certainly won't be buying this generation.
All this talk of new cards has got me thinking about getting a third 970... would have to lose my 10GBe adapter to fit it in though.
All this talk of £600 to £1000 graphics cards, has made me wonder whether getting a Ghost S1 or Dan Case A4 SFX is really as expensive as it seems, especially considering how long they will last me,and their uniqueness.
Watch AMD too and TBH when they were under $2 a share, people who invested then must be laughing all the way to the bank!!

I am CAT, thinking of putting a couple of grand in each and seeing what happens.
I'm expecting ~20% fps increase over the previous gen cards. All the other "features" are either marketing blurb, gimmicks or a feature that will be rarely used just like other nvidia exclusive features (even when they are used in games they are badly implemented causing stutters and I just switch them off because I prefer 100+ fps butterness)
What Nvidia been doing in the last couple of years is absolutely disgusting and brand damaging. £1.2k for 2080ti is complete bonkers. I got my 1080ti last year for under £700 and that was really pushing it.
People hoping that the next gen will bring leaps in terms of performance are disillusioned. Why would Nvidia do that?! it's going to be incremental all the way until competition comes out (unlikely). They are greedy b'stards and if they could sell you gtx 970 again for £2k they would. Sadly it's all about profit for them. Gaming used to be cool and games done with passion and love but these days the whole industry (software and hardware) is just filled up to the brim with greedy blood sucking individuals that could probably fit well in investment banking...You as a gamer are nothing else than $$$ on their account.
Just saw the DF preview of Shadow of the Tombraider:

So with weak CPU cores and an RX580 class GPU the games runs on what looks like decent settings on 1080p at 60FPS and at 4K at 30FPS.
Hence, anyone with a GTX1080 should be able to easily get 60FPS at 1080p or even qHD with this title on decent settings(maybe not everything on maximum) without RTX features on with a recent Core i7,etc. If it doesn't something is not right IMHO.
Something that always grinds on me is the sort of comment like 'thanks AMD' i.e. blaming their lack of competitive products for Nvidia's profiteering. Yet it seems they're generally the same people who are glad to have AMD as competition, just so they can buy Nvidia/Intel at lower prices...
If said people actually bought products from a not-almost-monopoly company when they were roughly on par or ahead (remember when people were making a huge deal about power consumption when Nvidia sorted their Thermi problems out, and had cards draw something like 20W less than the AMD equivalent), then maybe AMD wouldn't have put their high-end efforts on standby for the time being?
People are quick to split hairs over insignificant differences one day, then blame them for lack of competition the next!!!
Edit: I also remember reading a fair bit of nonsense on some other forum about how competition makes no real difference to progress or pricing. Yeah, about that... How's Coffee Lake going for you??

True, I can understand that AMD doesn't have the resources NVIDIA does and needed to prioritise their projects with ryzen and locking in the income of Navi for PlayStation 5. Fair play for NVIDIA trying to put RT into games, its just a gamble which might not get adopted by developers and just wish someone could put their prices into check.

Hi Everyone,
Wanted to give you an update on the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti availability.
GeForce RTX 2080 Ti general availability has shifted to September 27th, a one week delay. We expect pre-orders to arrive between September 20th and September 27th.
There is no change to GeForce RTX 2080 general availability, which is September 20th.
We’re eager for you to enjoy the new GeForce RTX family! Thanks for your patience.

On OcUK people some have mentioned their pre-ordered with Nvidia have been cancelled.
Not doing something because you fear it's futile is how democracy dies
But no, I'm saying there are plenty of games out there, and sure, if your one particular itch is scratched by a game that encourages proprietary hardware features then by all means go for it, just don't complain if it means it becomes more expensive to scratch that itch in the future. On the otherhand, if you can enjoy more than one game, then choosing between them based on decisions that will help future competition and make it less expensive in the future then you might want to do that.
I would instead say 'some' games will - again, there are lots and lots of different games out there, many (the vast vast majority) won't be any less enjoyable for the lack of an RTX feature.Games will have RTX features as an option. Shadow of the Tomb Raider has released without the RTX option it will come to have.
