Re: Intel launches 8th gen Core U- and Y-Series mobile processors
OK, maybe I'm going mad, but my laptop is running an 8th Gen Core i5 U processor. It's a 4C/8T part @ 1.6GHz base frequency and it has 6MB of smart cache in a 15W TDP.
So ... what exactly are Intel claiming to be "launching" here? They've taken year-old processors, given them a small increase to their boost frequencies, and suddenly they're "launching" 8th Gen Core U processors?
Give me a break....
Re: Intel launches 8th gen Core U- and Y-Series mobile processors
They are based on improved 14nm tech, cause they boost higher within the same thermal budget. We'll see if that holds true in actual tests or not.

Looks like it doesn't have the 'slow down' from needing to be patched for spectre/meltdown, it seems like this is the first generation with it fixed in hardware.... no wonder they're comparing to a 5 year old machine, they were the hardest hit lol.
Re: Intel launches 8th gen Core U- and Y-Series mobile processors
So they're comparing it to a 5 year old design that has been crippled by patching and finding it's a lot faster. Well so was the uncrippled part. How about testing an unpatched 5 year old CPU against the new model?
Nah, we all know why they won't do that.
