Typical Apple products. Expensive and nothing innovative and now too big for most handbags!

Didn't Jobs have unfavourable opinions about large phones?

Meh. But then any new phone: Meh.

We've reached peak useful new features, I think.

Apparently from the other iPhone thread,$400 is low end phone money and no one can challenge that.

Re: QOTW: What do you make of the 2018 iPhones?

Basically when it was announced I was like...
Whatever happened to 'one handed use' they kept going on about...some people might actually still want a small phone

they've finally caught up with most high end android phones then when they said about water proofing.
Why the different screen resolutions at those prices...
oh look more stupid naming to disguise the fact the £750 phone comes with a 6.1 inch display that's barely higher in resolution (1792x828) than most sub £100 phones which come with 720p displays, hell you can get screen resolution of 1080 x 2160p on a Honor 9 lite for £150...

Basically, if people pay these prices they want their head examined, NO phone is worth the prices they're charging for them imo, the hardware isn't all that impressive in all honesty either

I made the mistake of questioning why someone suggested £600 was midrange and pointed to established tiering of phones(midrange being at most £400/£450 in the current climate) with loads of evidence(must be about 12 sites at least).

This is the kind of response I got here:

Phone prices increase so much each year that a once accepted pricing structure no longer applies. The brackets change each year.
Basically due to high end luxury tier phones, the rest of us should pay more.

I have been trying to eludicidate why existing pricing for us lot on low end and midrange phones needs to increase due to luxury tier phones. Asked the question a million different ways, tried to look at other things and asked WHY?? Not got a solid answer yet, apart from some snidy remarks implying that I should get my head examined.

So now you know why Apple,Samsung get away with this - people not only actively will defend the pricing, but will also act like a dog in the manger expecting the rest to pay more even on lower tiers, and I honestly still have not figured that one out.....and probably never will.

Re: QOTW: What do you make of the 2018 iPhones?

My old HTC M9 took a trip down some steps and needed replacing, HTC have been pretty lackluster in the phone department (being polite) lately so I looked at these, Samsung and Huawei. Ended up going with a Huawei p20 pro because it was way cheaper than other flagships on contract, plus the camera is something else. So to answer the question... ...I found the apple phones to be way too expensive for what is on offer and went for a (slightly) more sensible option.

Re: QOTW: What do you make of the 2018 iPhones?

Hardwarewise i like the no bezel look on current phones, not so keen on notches but that would not be a deal breaker for not buying one. Looking forward to when Tablets are bezel less.
Jargon like "neural" and "bionic" put me off straight away, its as if they need something to convince you that its better but they are not significantly better.
    The prices are ridiculous.

Not according to here, where apparently having midrange phones at £200 to £450 is too cheap apparently.

Not for me, nor any other over priced Apple products.

Give me a compelling reason to replace my Oneplus 3T.

It's fast, Dual SIM, it has a decent screen, has all the features I need and the battery life is excellent.

Re: QOTW: What do you make of the 2018 iPhones?

I'm perplexed by the decision to have the budget phone be BIGGER than the regular Xs.

Like, at 326ppi, the Xr's screen isn't _awful_ (it's the same pixel-per-inch as the previous gen's iphone 8), I just don't see why they would do that.

Re: QOTW: What do you make of the 2018 iPhones?

Sorry, but how much for the top end one? Ye gods.

At that price, not unless it can cook my dinner, wash my socks, walk the dog and mind the kids, doubles as a car and does a passable lap-dance.

In truth while Apple phones are nice enough, I guess, I'm not paying that sort of money for any phone, even assuming I wanted a smartphone at all which, as is no secret, I don't.

So, for me, "indifferent" is a substantial overstatement.

Put it this way, if some kind soul gave me one, I might consider using it. Maybe.
