And the first 3DMark Dandia real-time raytracing video surfaces (Microsoft DXR API).

Its ironic that the only way to enjoy ray tracing is these videos; that anyone without even rtx cards can enjoy, despite the rtx cards being out...

More interesting if you read the books and played the previous games, where the whole world is in the middle of a nuclear winter after a nuclear exchange 20 years earlier. The whole "Metro" name is because the survivors in Russia had to live in the Metro system since topside is too dangerous, and you need a gasmask and protection to do it for short periods. Now apparently only 2 years later after you support the Dark Ones(the ending which is apparently canon) you have bright sunshine, and the nuclear winter has suddenly ended. Also the dark desaturated look, which is shared with the STALKER series has all gone.

This is what the world looks like:

This looks like a big divergence from the books, and it will be interesting to see how they explain the ecosystem has suddenly repaired itself.

Re: Nvidia shows off Metro Exodus RTX real-time extended demo

UL has now officially announced its 3DMark ray tracing tech demo.

In an email to HEXUS it said that

"Later this year, we will release a new 3DMark benchmark test that combines real-time ray tracing with existing techniques to enhance reflections and other effects. The benchmark will run on any system that supports the DirectX Ray Tracing API.

The new benchmark is being developed with input from our Benchmark Development Program partners including AMD, Intel, NVIDIA, and other leading technology companies. We are working especially closely with Microsoft to create a first-class implementation of the DirectX Ray Tracing API.

We expect to release this new test in Q4, 2018."

In the books (bugs meant I couldn't finish the first game after getting to Polis) they use nukes at the end of the first one so the nuclear winter should last even longer. It's a shame they diverted from the books as I think the climax of the last book would make for an absolutely AWESOME chaotic survival sequence.

Since I couldn't finish the first game for a game killing bug, I've kinda gone off Metro games.

I guess raytracing can dissipate deadly radiation. Maybe someone should try it out in chernobyl.

Yeah,I am wondering how they will explain it - the game looks almost like it has had an ENB applied to it now.

It's viable, but the government refused to pre-order untested hardware, and after seeing the perf/dollar, decided it was akin to a boondoggle.

As for nuclear winters suddenly ending. If you remember the first game it was grim outside, and all wintery. Nuclear winters don't last forever and one might assume that between the end of Last Light and Exodus the passage of time is enough for the Earth to continue healing itself.

However, having never finished the first game and not getting around to playing the 2nd I couldn't possibly say.

I really do like this ray tracing malarky though. The new cards are at least as powerful, and more so, than the 1080Ti. Though it would have been nice of nvidia to include all the publishers and devs to get this implemented so there's something to play on day one.

I can see this being very much like the Xbox One X, where it was released with a handful of Enhanced game, and then a whole load of patches and newer games are released which take advantage for the new tech. Being patient has never been gamer's strongest attribute.

No its two years in the game. The books indicated the nuclear winter was still in full flow, and the last game definitely it was in full flow.

Now it apparently isn't,and a nuclear winter should be global,so I wonder how it is going to be explained?? Do the Dark Ones manage some fantasy way to clear up the biosphere,or is it going to be the magically untouched valley trope??

Apparently the game is based around the train as a mobile base. At least in the Fallout games, its set yonks after the nuclear war happened, and Fallout universe nuclear weapons are meant to be much smaller yield(and there are much less missiles).
