Re: Nintendo is planning to release a new version of the Switch

will they still ship it with dead pixels like the last revision, then tell people "it's not a defect"?

    https://www.theguardian.com/technolo...pixels-console

And do you still have to use it more than 1m away from any other electronic device?

Re: Nintendo is planning to release a new version of the Switch

The best way to kill console sales is to tell people a new version will be coming cause no one wants to buy something that is getting replaced in a month or two.

Re: Nintendo is planning to release a new version of the Switch

I bought mine last year for Zelda and have since been using it for indie games and playing on a commute.

I'd love to be able to use my bluetooth headphones with it so if a new version is coming that would be a feature i'd like

I hope they release a version without a screen.

Re: Nintendo is planning to release a new version of the Switch

There way a suspicion where they would release a handheld exclusive console which would be a fully stand alone unit that would have to use a dongle to connect to a television etc. if they make a upgrade to the current rendition it would be quite intresting if they would get nVidia to do a revamp on their X1 SoC, would we see any new technologies incorporated or is it going to be purely power saving. I like the idea for the switch to be a ds compatible device for the likes of pokemon and maybe smash bros, maybe stick a removable battery in the portable edition. There is lots that i want from the switch to be fare

Re: Nintendo is planning to release a new version of the Switch

Its most likely a Tegra X2:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tegra#Tegra_X1

The GPU changes from Maxwell to Pascal and the system moves from 4 primary cores to 2 faster ones.

The other alternative is the Tegra X1 gets made on 16NM Finfet instead of the older 20NM non-Finfet process, and it ends up having higher clockspeeds.

My guess is that it's so that they can add a fix for that flaw said to be unpatchable by software due to being in the hardware, which allowed the team who discovered it to run their own code on the Switch.

Haven't used my Switch in ages. There's just no games for it that interest me that don't look better on other systems.

The X1 they use is already very under-clocked compared to what it can do.

Finfets have advantages in lower TDP devices, and I would assume that TSMC 16NM must be relatively low cost by now.

I really hope this is all they do, along with some minor improvements/changes with the screen etc. I seriously doubt they will make any performance related changes at all - its much more likely to be a hardware revision update with a few other tweaks, a bit like when they launched the 3DS XL.

Its still a very new console and Nintendo would seriously annoy all their current owners if the new model had any improvements that improved gameplay - and it really isn't Nintendo's style. I still really enjoy my switch - spent most of tonight playing Crash Bandicoot whilst watching TV, something I cannot do with my Xbox, tablet or mobile I have a 4.5 hour flight to enjoy next week too where my Switch will keep me entertained - again something I can't do with other consoles.

"late-ish stage of its life cycle" It only came out March 3, 2017...
Used to buy them all but that stopped after the three's and wii u.
The way game pricing is and thanks to GOG, Humble Bundle and Steam
I've pretty much gone back to pc only.

Looking forward more to the micro N64 actually! ^_^//

Controversial opinion, but rather than ruining sales, this might create a push for all the hacker types to buy up the current version before xmas with the NVIDIA chip exploit, as I am almost 100% sure they are doing this to fix that.
