Intel 9th gen Core processors to support up to 128GB of RAM

Previously you would have needed a Xeon for such a quantity of RAM.

Doubt it, they've got to segment the market somehow so they don't leave a steaming turd on the xeon markets table.

"Currently the Intel Core i9-9900K is on pre-order for approx £600" lol. Truly more money than sense.

Actually I wish I had more money than sense, I bet it's awesome.

ECC hasn't been supported on Core processors since the MMU moved from the chipset onto the CPU die (with the notable exception of some Core i3 processors).

As Tabbykatze correctly states it's all part of Intel's glorious market segmentation.

Re: Intel 9th gen Core processors to support up to 128GB of RAM

They had to find one way of convincing gamers they need a new top end CPU (anybody that would truly benefit from this CPU on pro workloads are probably in the market for a full workstation CPU instead), oohh I can see the conversations now...

"You don't really NEED that CPU just yet my friend, and 128GB RAM is pure overkill, why don't you improve X part of your system as it would actually benefit and be a lot cheaper"

"I don't care, it's higher numbers meaning it's better, so what if we both have the same frames at the same settings on the same game and I paid twice as much money as you, mine is better, look it says so on the box, it supports more ram than yours, I don't care that my temps are high and my PC looks and sounds like a rainbow puking rocket ship, I have 128GB ram that will be too slow when this amount is needed in games!!"

If you know CAT well enough, you would know his sense of humour. I'm sure he's already aware of it, just taking a little Michael .

Not according to ARK, though ARK also says that this chip only support 64GB. What does ARK know eh?

I guess the fact that Threadripper can already do 128GB through having more DIMM slots has Intel slightly spooked. However, the only people I know who would consider 64GB too little ram for their workstation tasks would also insist on ECC, so this still loses.

Is'nt it a "mid range" processor at that price point.

in other words simply buy an AMD Ryzen processor ...cheaper(price/performance)...safer(no meltdowns)...better(EEC support)... simply the SMART choice.

Re: Intel 9th gen Core processors to support up to 128GB of RAM

128Gb of Ram , why , and who cares. Sorry I'm not a FanBoy of any chip but was glad when the first Athlons appeared and gave Intel a deserved kick up the pants for their arrogance , overpriced self monopoly as they saw it. " Intel Inside " marketing and so forth, Blah. Got another kick up the pants now with Ryzen and caught napping , good for us consumers , competition is needed to make prices sensible. Hopefully Intel will think about re-pricing and produce something special with all the R and D they can afford as opposed to AMD especially after all the staff poaching they have been doing lately. I'm not opposed to Intel and have used their chips down the years but their attitude , despicable busisness practises have left me far from favourable. Biggest percentage of peeps don't need massive memory , fast cpu's of 1TB of H/D space or more , they browse the internet , occasional social media , Emails Etc , marketing is making peeps buy want they don't need at all. Sad.

I sat down the other day to work out roughly how much storage space I needed to install all of my rather small collection of games. Suffice to say, 1TB definitely wouldn't cover it. Need is a rather subjective term, everyone has different usage scenarios.

What is this bulls***?? Why is intel or hexus lying to people? You can have 128Gb of memory on the X99 chipset. STOP WITH THE FAKE NEWS!!!
