This actually looks like a great patch. I can finally uninstall junk like the People app and also get some performance back for my ageing chip. These are the sort of patches I like!
    Trust

You might want to fix a typo. It's not "Reptoline", but "Retpoline" or "Return trampoline".

If they did that, and also changed it so that users have choice over what gets installed and when, as in Windows 7, THEN I'd be interested.

EDIT: And ideally if it also allowed the uninstallation of those listed by Faiakes below as not being able to be removed despite being on the new build.

OK, just tried it (build 18262) but can't get rid of:

    - Game bar
    - Get help
    - Maps
    - Messaging
    - Edge
    - Photos
    - Microsoft Store
    - People
    - Xbox Game Speech Window (but can uninstall Xbox finally)
    - Your Phone

    It's a start I guess.
I've just finished a 1803 image taking all this stuff out. Mines quite rigorous removing cortana and search altogether.
Removing all the Apps saves a nice 6GB taking a vanilla install to only 15GB which I thought wasn't too bad.

    What software did you use?

There was something I used to use for WinXP customisation, I don't even remember what it was called now.

Is it possible to remove all that after installation?
Have you faced any problems not having Edge in your system?

Nlite? Still exists but I've not used it since the XP days so no idea how effective or safe it is.

Re: Windows 10 19H1 allows removal of more pre-installed apps

I have been uninstalling most of Microsofts bloat such as maps, store etc since the day I upgraded to Windows 10 during the free upgrade period using Ccleaner. It won't uninstall Cortana and you can't fully disable it but t got rid of som much junk that I didn't want.

Hmmm, I had to stop using CCleaner, it has turned into spyware.

Re: Windows 10 19H1 allows removal of more pre-installed apps

I tend to disable as many services as possible and as many start up processes as possible. I'll be quite happy to get rid of as much of this rubbish as I can. I don't worry about laptops, etc but my main PC is kept as bloat free as possible. I see my main PC as being like a sports car - stripped down nearly to the point of inconvenience but overall performance is there. My laptop has all the convenience stuff on and I don't mind if it takes a bit longer to boot up or load something.

If they had done that initially, I might never have dumped Windows in the first place.

But it's too late now, for me. I've readjusted many working practices, adjusted to new applications and to Linux, and I can't imsgine anything MS could do to tempt me back.

Fair enough. At this point they still have a chance with me as Windows 7 is still supported and I haven't had a need that forced me to switch yet (such as getting a newer system that Windows 7 is blocked from providing updates for), but the time left to convince me is shrinking further and further.
