I'm glad i don't buy & sell stocks and shares, it makes no sense to me at times.
Tech stocks are all a bit weird now. Nvidia has dropped from $290ish to as low as $197 in the last few days and MS made record profits and their share price dropped!
yeah but it depends if you're looking at the long game. Anyone using MSoffice will be wondering how long MS can keep pushing out these rubbish patches that break more than they fix. I really think they're on the wane as a company. Anyone else hating the new icons, awful pop-up menu-loading and screen lag in office excel 365 since the latest updates?

I was looking at the results and the reason why stocks have dipped is because AMD GPU sales are down due to the crypto crash.

IF you guys would quit whining for cheaper products AMD might have a decent Q or better yet a few years in a row of decent Q's. But they seem to keep listening to fools who don't seem to understand if you don't make money you die (a very slow death in AMDs case). They are WASTING profits on cheap prices and chasing cheap markets. Chase the top if you want high margins and high NET income. Just look at Intel/NVDA/AAPL etc. Intel has a production problem and they immediately shift from a mix of chips to MOSTLY HEDT/SERVER or top desktop chips and screw the poor. Yep, exactly what they should have done. NV always releases higher end stuff first for the same reasons. Until volumes come up, produce only the most expensive things that sell. NOT competing in the high end is dumb.
IE, they chased consoles (NV wisely didn't, as they said it would force lowering resources on CORE products) and barely made money yearly due to such low margins. That R&D should have went to cpu's and ZEN would have come out 5-7yrs ago. They dropped the cpu race for console and it was stupid. Quit using HBM unless it actually IMPROVES something MASSIVELY, otherwise choose cheap and EASY to mass produce (gddr5x the right choice vs. hbm/hbm2, ask NV) which solves shortages and low margin issues. There are more things they could do, but aiming at an audience that exists is a good start. Why they keep trying to be 4k (last 5yrs) when 95% of the public couldn't care less currently (below that res), is beyond stupid. Aim your perf at the largest audience base. I have a 1070ti and run 1200p with no intention of 4k for ages and my next monitor will NOT be 4k either (1600p if I have anything to say about it). You need to win at 1080p first and foremost, then 1440p maybe, and 4k is an afterthought if at all. Keep chasing small markets or low margin products (console, apu, launching new gpu with lowend gpu) and you'll keep having barely profitable quarters vs. the competition.
Chase the rich and deal with the poor when forced ;) No, I'm not rich, just understand business (had one for a decade or so, made my money on higher end pc's, didn't even sell low end mboards or psu's period!), and you get richer serving developed wallets whenever possible ;) I only built a lower pc if a highend one wasn't on order already :) I left the low stuff to dell/hp etc who can live on lower margin stuff selling millions of units. AMD needs HIGH margins or small SHARE never makes much money if at all especially with interest on debt eating it. AMD should be chasing server, HEDT, and nothing else unless those are saturated. You don't launch from the bottom unless you don't like profits. The rich profits allow for the bottom (later). But that doesn't work if you try bottom first...LOL. You end up behind in tech then because no R&D profits from rich people to fund the next rev :( I really hope 7nm chips all get the CORRECT PRICING from top to bottom. NO DISCOUNTS! Charge what they are WORTH based on perf/watts/heat compared to intel. If you\'re beating them in EVERYTHING at 7nm, you are stupid if you charge LESS than Intel and I\'d argue charge MORE if you\'re winning vs. Intel\'s chips. YOU ARE NOT OUR FRIEND AMD. Fire anyone who thinks they are supposed to be our friend! It doesn\'t mean you can\'t offer a good deal here and there, but your life should not be a FREAKY GREAT PRICE DEAL forever, product after product. NO sir, raise the prices. PERIOD.
Queue price whiners who should just improve their job status, or save for a few more months before buying product X. Can\'t do that? Cancel cable tv or your cell for a few months etc. It\'s not hard to re-allocate your resources to buy a PC part. Cut the cord for a year and you get a free PC...LOL.

IBM are still successful after re-positioning themselves in the market - but nowhere near as high profile or dominant as they were.
They're doing the same thing as IBM though, moving primarily into business to business. The fact that people at MS refer to consumer windows as a legacy product says a lot.Quote:
