QOTW: When was the last time you upgraded your PC?

Last Christmas - switched from an AMD 8350 to a 1700X when they went on sale. I already had a 1070GTX and it's all on custom water cooling, so I don't think I'll be changing anything anytime soon...

I would like a good monitor, my 5 year old 27" 1080p 60HZ 1ms panel was good at the time, but I want MOAR HURTZ!!!

For me it was 2011 - 2012 (i5-2500K and nVidia GTX 680). There are things I would like to do which my machine can't handle, but current component prices don't provide me with the value I want, and my current rig does work well enough for all that I need to do. I imagine I will wait for Intel to get to 10nm and AMD to get to Zen2 and Navi or Zen3 and Navi.

Replaced the GPU with a 1060 on black friday for 200 Euros - awesome deal, later on they got up as high as 400, even now they're 230-ish.

Since my 3570k system in 2012 I got a GTX 970 in early 2015, new PSU a month before plus a new case that could fit it. It's not really surprising that systems have lasted so long, CPU tech has had terrible progress apart from cores, and GPU tech has only really had boosts with the 900 1000 and 2000 GTX/RTX series, before then there were a number of rehashes and it all comes with a cost nowadays. Plus RAM being super costly didn't help. I didn't bother replacing my SSD since prices used to be high and figured the biggest annoyance was boot times which you could just make yourself busy for a couple of mins.

Nowadays I am tempted to upgrade my CPU since it does seem to have aged now though intel haven't impressed me with this release. A new GPU would also be nice but the expense is off putting and the choice is between lower performance AMD with freesync, or costly Nvidia.

Then again, I really only had 2 systems I bought myself previously, a pentium 4 and then a core 2 that also only had small tweaks.

about 6 months ago when I bought a riotoro cr500 case for about £45 and a corsair rm550x psu.
that case is just amazing for the price

I "just"(end of September) did. I recently upgrade from 8Go C16 to 16Go C14 of DDR4, and from a 240go SSD to a 500Go NVME boot drive. Been waiting since for the "1809 windows 10" update to rollout again to do a clean install though. Still waiting for the end of this mess to do so.

I am also thinking of doing away with my 1TB F3 and instead getting two 970 EVO NVME SSD's. This should set me back another £200.

Last month I replaced my 770 sli with 1080ti and replaced my 500gb hdd with 1tb sata 3 ssd.
I was going to get a 2080 but it was worse in some games due to less vram so 1080ti and 1tb was better value.

The current cpu are around 40% better than my 4770k in 5 years which is crap imo and is why I haven't bothered.

Mid-2017 is when I last upgraded to a i7 7700K, GTX 1080 Ti, 32Gb of 3200mhz ram, 960 Pro M.2, and a bitchin' Viewsonic XG2703-GS 27" 1440p@165hz Gsync monitor with IPS panel. The upgrade replaced my old machine based on i7 2600K, 8Gb of 2400mhz ram, Patriot SSD, GTX 680, and a lame 25" HP monitor. That machine lasted for longer than any other PC I have ever built. Am suspecting this machine will last similar amount of time as I followed a similar formula in the build.

Other than swapping some HDD/SSDs - just over 2 years ago - Nvidia 580 1.5gb to amd Rx 480 8gb as I was hitting a vram wall. My 3570k finally got over clocked at the same time and I went to 16gb ram. Still plays everything I want we'll - I've even been able to drive a 2k monitor we'll enough.
