It's about time for it to happen. RAM prices has been as prohibitive as GPU ones for quite a long time. I really hope that crypto mining never ever again become a thing in PC. They hurted us and badly.

The mistake you made there is assuming that it had been driven by customer need, its not. There's only a few ram manufacturers so for the last few years they've avoided investing in ram or manufacturing capacity because they could make more money charging you more for the same thing because of limited availability.
