I was really disappointed by my redmi note 2 - great value hardware but awful software support. Still getting updates but stuck on Android 5.1 that it shipped with. I'd rather spend the same on lesser hardware with better software. Miui isn't much fun either.
    Trust

What a disaster of a launch.

They've advertised £1 phones for days and days, and how many do you think they made available at the price? 100? 10? No. 3.

Cue their customers and fans going nuts at them. Very well handled by Xiaomi.

Re: Xiaomi officially enters UK market with major retailer backing

Is there any indication that they're going to bring their Mi Pad 4 tablets to the UK store?
They're about the only quality tablet one can buy right now, outside of an iPad and Samsung.

Also, is it easy to tell which Xiaomi products are heavily ad-supported, i.e. stay away from everything that isn't Android One?
Really not keen to buy a product that oozes officially licenced spy-ware.

haha just 3 phones for the £1 promo, although I suspect they'd have still faced criticism from everyone who didn't get one
Now to look up how smart that kettle really is

Isn't Android itself officially licenced spyware?

I'd put forward that AOSP isn't, just Google's and others implementation of it.

sure, but xiaomi goes the extra mile to make sure they can offer you a cheap handset:

It would be nice if they (Xiao Mi) specified which Westfield in London... This is great news though; it should make purchasing tech (like the Mi Pad 4) a lot easier.

Re: Xiaomi officially enters UK market with major retailer backing

Samsung threw ads at me today, buzzing at me.

I get annoyed enough at unnecessary buzzing. If someone sends me more than two messages in a row I get cross. Sit and think about what you want to say and
    don't
    send
    it
    like
    this
    you
    scatterbrain.

Adverts in a settings menu would probably result in the mobile phone in question becoming airborne.
