2011.
Got to say, I didn't expect the i7 2600k to hold up quite so well, it was a good purchase choice. I'm starting to get to the stage where I really want to upgrade my monitor though, which means needing a bit more to push the frame rates in games, plus everything else that goes with it. So glad I went with 4 SSDs in Raid 0 though, definitely helped the longevity of this build.
Last complete rebuild was also around 2011, also an i7 2600k. At the time I think it had a HD6950 in it.. can't really remember. Since then its had a couple of video cards, currently a Vega 56, and also swapped the boot drive for a SATA SSD.
Next "upgrade" will be a 1440p Freesync monitor, though I might be tempted to do another rebuild once I see what Zen2 brings to the table.
Three weeks ago.
last week. Upgraded my 5yr old GTX 780 with a second hand GTX 1080Ti from Ebay.
Last year - I had a Haswell i5 and DDR3 ram. The PSU semi fried the motherboard so I had to do a almost complete rebuild, everything apart from the GPU and Drives.
Next will hopefully just be a new Graphics card - but not a nVidia one at the prices they are at the moment.
August this year, first major upgrade since 2012.
New 750w psu about 3 months ago.
I haven't upgraded as I refuse to use Windows 10. I hate it, so using Windows 7 all my software runs quite smoothly on a 6-year-old i7 based CPU.
When Win 7 license runs out, I'm moving to Ubuntu, as I already use it in anger on my laptop for work purposes. a true OS, not this all monitoring sells you what we can crap.
3 years ago I swapped to an ITX build for travel reasons, was a much better motherboard than I was using previously otherwise everything else was 2 years old at the time. I still don't see a need to replace an i7 4770k but maybe in a couple years. If I hadnt switched to 1440p for gaming I wouldn't be considering a new graphics card right now.
Just bought a be quiet dark rock pro 4 cooler and installed it on my 7700k. Very quiet and very cool.
Last year. I doubled my RAM from 8GB to 16.
Been a while. It's getting less and less necessary which is good for the wallet and the environment. Monitors are the area to watch.
I replaced my semi modular Seasonic G series 750w with a fully modular BeQuiet Straightpower 11 550w in mid June. It was a review sample from OCUK/BeQuiet so it was a freebie. They didn't like what I had to say about the price and warranty so they never let my review show up on the store page.
At the same time I switched from flaxible tubing to PETG Hardline tubing and swapped the cpu block from a EK Supremacy Evo to a Alphacool Eisblock XPX and retired my trusty old Aquaextreme 50z pumps for a Alphacool VPP655 D5.
Never - everything is in balance, and upgrading one component would just lead to weakness showing elsewhere
