Bleh. Looks like DDR4 will have lasted me 1 PC build then.

They need to keep up the ram prices. Now you need to upgrade again.
Re: SK hynix claims first DDR5 chips to meet the JEDEC standards
thats a long way off, I was hoping to see consumer versions sooner.
Re: SK hynix claims first DDR5 chips to meet the JEDEC standards
Looking good. what about the form factor, is this going to require a new mobo?

I'm still rocking an i7-3770 with 16Gb of DDR3, as long as your GPU and HDD keep up I'm sure you'll be fine for a while yet...

Just the same here...
And also I just both small factor i7 3770 / 16GB to be a local server.
Enough computing power for my needs atm and in addition current prices puts me off of upgrading.
But at some point, maybe a shinning ryzen?

same still on ddr3 1600 :(
Re: SK hynix claims first DDR5 chips to meet the JEDEC standards
Same here - 12GB DDR3 1600. Considering increasing the quantity but DDR5 will be long since established before I consider anything more. It works just fine for my needs and does not present a bottleneck.
Re: SK hynix claims first DDR5 chips to meet the JEDEC standards
None of the house PCs here have DDR4 yet :D

This. They're not likely to at current prices either.
Got a desktop with 16gb ddr3, a server with 8gb of the same and a laptop with ddr2.
Re: SK hynix claims first DDR5 chips to meet the JEDEC standards
Hopefully the prices drop before 2020, the high spec DDR3 ram I bought back in 2012 is still the same price now and the equivalent high spec ddr4 is just a silly price in comparison :(

Probably the same here but, I only recently upgraded and don't expect to do so again for several years, especially as gaming has dropped way down my list of priorities this year.
Re: SK hynix claims first DDR5 chips to meet the JEDEC standards
still on DDR3 2133, best upgrade I made.

Yep not much chance of me introducing even DDR4 in the near future:
Desktop: 32GB DDR3
Server 1: 32GB DDR3
Server 2: 16GB DDR3
Server 3: 48GB DDR3
Server 4: 8GB DDR3
I probably don't need all of those however TBH :-D
Re: SK hynix claims first DDR5 chips to meet the JEDEC standards
i hope RGB is also a memory by then or seriously phased down
