Holy crap that video looks absolutely astounding. Like most people I've been scoffing at all of this, the thought of going back to 1080p just to get fancy lighting. But if the lighting effects have such a massive impact on quality that you can forget you're playing at 1080p, maybe it'll be worth it.

...Not like it matters because I refuse to buy a 2080Ti, rip off buggers.

Even if you wanted to, the stock levels are abismal with ebuyer & overclockers seemingly having nearly all of the UK's 2080 Ti allocation. I presume that's Nvidia intentionally restricting supply to keep prices inflated.

The white guy in that video looks like he's really enjoying the smell of his own farts.

Re: Nvidia boasts of 'RTX On' 50 per cent speed boost in Battlefield V

Stay on this path and the 2060 being branded as an RTX card may not seem so stupid after all! I am however still eager to see a game that has been built with ray tracing in mind from the start, that together with DLSS or CAS, could be very interesting! I think only then we will really be able to see how much we can expect from this gen of cards, although I imagine we will be looking at another 12 months at least before we really get there...

ANYWAY, this is good news, 1440p 60fps with RTX on using a 2080? yes please!

It really is - even pre patch where I was getting 40fps @ 1440p on ultra (with DXR on medium) it was stunning. On the less graphically intensive scenes i did some testing with DXR on ultra and again, it was stunning.

Game changing tbh it completely changes how the game looks - I ultimately turned it off for Multiplayer as getting over 100FPS was more important to me in that mode, but for SP I have had DXR on all the way. If this update delivers the boosts that their video shows and I can now get 60FPS with DXR on @ 1440p...then I will happily turn it back on for all modes!

Im running it on a 2080 not a ti. I'm sure they will further optimise too - its exciting to finally see this content coming through

As Spud1 said, in the multiplayer, you have a point, but for the story mode, your FPS doesn't matter. You're there for the graphical and story experience, not the K : D ratio. Also, if you run a G-Sync monitor, 60FPS is plenty, as it'll still display the frames as soon as they're ready anyway, so it's a minimal drop in actual responsiveness.

The reflections and extra "wow" stuff is beautiful.

I'm running an RTX 2080Ti and found that most of the story played really well but the autumnal section and the snowy maps killed the framerate, as low as 25-30 in areas. Excited to see how this works tonight.

I can't remember the last time I saw shiny mud, they'd squeeze a bit more performance out of the cards by making things that aren't shiny not shine!

Oh so first it was stated it will benefit programmers and designers as it is easy to implement - not much additional metadata is needed to produce awesome effect, just the material type. And now we see it is not going to be like that... hmmmm. Having to implement the old technology(as it is available for anyone) i don't see many indie studios to add this any time soon.

Re: Nvidia boasts of 'RTX On' 50 per cent speed boost in Battlefield V

I spent last night playing Battlefield V for about 6 hours, many wins, was a good night. I had RTX on medium all night and was still pushing out 60-100 FPS @ 1440p with an RTX 2080Ti. Perfectly playable in multiplayer. Still managing 50-80 on ultra in the single player too.

In my opinion, now that it's sorted out, it works very well. Quite excited to see if they manage to drag more performance out of it.
