Its still a MediaTek. When they start releasing source code for the Android Kernel so you create custom ROMS i'm keeping well clear. Got burnt on a Xiaomi with a Mediatek in that never had a single Android kernel update. With no kernel code it was stuck on 5.1. Its still a decent phone but just not worth using. Never again.
Was just about to say that. No matter what hypermega SoC they create (which will still be far behind any Qualcomm Snapdragon per core anyway, as usual), if they continue to show the middle finger to devs I simply don't care what second rate SoCs they spew out.
Same goes for phone manufacturers not allowing bootloader unlocks (hello Nokia!) while simultaneously bloating their phones with unnecessary crap and stupid UIs (hello Huawei!) or other condescending behavior (Xiaomi with their up to 1440 hour (2 month) wait time to unlock the bootloader)
